A poem about something as seemingly ordinary as washing the dishes? Just goes to show LIFE IS POETRY! And poeticising the mundane makes it extra-ordinary. But it also foregrounds the fact that too much in life has become prosaic. With our imaginations then suffering, probably explains why so many are in need Proza(i)c ;-)
Good one mate.
Cheers

LOVE these bits:
Mere minutes on a spoon, a coffee cup, 'm' alliteration
the singular condition of my life. Great summation

A simple tale well told on impeccable meter (10/line) on an abab platform. Excellent.

Regard:

Yup - sometimes being single has its priviledges. A nice reminder that we can find purpose in the mundane things of the every day.
A great rhyming poem in iambic pentameter - Amazing where inspiration comes from.
Rose.

A nice little poem and just when I was about to sympathise about your single condition - I was saying Ah.... then I read your author notes. Being single (happily) - the very addition of the word 'happily' makes me wonder - Methinks thou dost, etc..... No this is just me being facetious! I like your poem as I admire all that you write. Regards Dorothy

David, In you author notes..., but it did inspire(d) this little idea.
I wonder are you really as happy as you think?
It is much more rewarding to share your life with someone but the trick is finding that someone and I think your caution is to be admired. Just remember you will be old one day and need the love you are showing your father now. Where would he be if he didn't have you? xx Nancy

Oh, this is too precious. A perfect bachelor poem, with just a tiny hint between the lines of melancholia? (Yes, I read the author's notes, but like Hyde is a part of you, Kitty is of me. LOL)

Lots of fun, David - be a sport and head over to do dishes for me too, would you? (BTW, can you cook? LOL)

I find it interesting that you wrote a poem on simple dish washing but viewed it in such a poetic way. I do dishes by hand and I am not single (unhappily - lol). Stay with the simple and stay single. LOL.

Your poem illustrates the two sides of being single. Taking care of one is easy, but also a bit lonely. But owning no dishwasher. . . That's positively caveman! I feel compelled to send you a matching set of dishes.

Well done, David. Enjoyed the read.

The vision of your happy singlehood
Sometimes it seem that would be very good,
to do the dishes when the notions strikes
instead of at the beck and call of shrikes.

Hi. I like the simple pure image of this poem. And you say you did not like the red wheel barrow....
though to be sure, your poem makes a point at the end...
but, you see I see the actions, the one cup, the drain board with less being more.
Thanks, I am alone this week...and have just cleaned up apartment, my way.
I use the same bowl and cup alwys..anyways...but for a week it is simple...
