ROFLMAO! That was hilarious, especially about the dog winning the cat contest. To avoid future frustrations, only enter the site contests. Not only do you win $100 coin of the realm, but the committee judges, and for the most part they do pretty well.
Thank you for this wonderful little rant and welcome to Fanstory!

Thank you! I've been here for almost two years (not a patch on your six) so some of this was from experiences good and bad on FS. It was never meant to be a rant but more a "coming of age" or learning the ropes type of essay. I'm glad it made you laugh however as that was my intention all along. Thanks for reading and commenting, Dennis

LOLOLOL! Your humor really sparkles, Dennis. Totally cracked up at: I didn?t have to use any of my stars except the threes and fours. That bit about getting a cat so you'll qualify to write about it is a hoot. Um...you can't dig any farther than college? Well, around here, that will probably be a contest winner, lol. Hugs, Lou

Love to make you laugh...the college entry was to contrast with the earliest memory as the dog did in the cat contest... Thank you for reviewing and commenting. Always a pleasure...Dennis

I appreciate how you make us laugh at ourselves. I think what I learn from this is that we shouldn't take ourselves to seriously. Although I do get this unusual tingle when I see the golden plus. Loved the way you broke it up in pieces with the time-frames. Now, should I give you excellent or good. Good is good, but I've had some nasty comments when I gave my good rating. Stan

A good review that shows my reader understood what I was trying to express is better than stars. Connecting through our writing is difficult on some levels as you know. That's why they call it an essay... Thanks brother, Dennis

Hah ha, yep, I'm sure many will be able to relate to one (or more!) of these satirical scenarios you've so cleverly presented here, Deniz22. Like a contest entry winning that had nothing--or little--to do with the prompt. That does happen occasionally. Thankfully, not too often, though.
It seems you've grasped just how hollow those six-stars truly are, in the really big scheme of things. They in no way mean we are going to hit the NY Times Best Seller lists anytime soon. They do give us a barometer to go by, a real feel what people think pertaining to our particular style and content. After all, people on Fanstory (contrary to some opinions) are real people too, and they read and purchase books themselves.
Good stuff!

Your journey so far seem quite entertaining. I do believe it has been said that art imitates life. I enjoyed reading your entries, perhaps memoir!.

More like a battle report than a memoir I believe. Glad you enjoyed. Now I must travel tour profile page and see if you've written anything new ??? And if not, why not? I didn't sign on as your fan to sit around and twiddle my thumbs...:) Dennis

I will. I am trying to decide what type of poem to post.I am seeking inspiration and want to only have strong christian themes.

Great! Will be watching for your next work. Dennis

LOLOL I'm not so sure it's satire. :-) Some things, readers (not me) can relate too. Newbies learn quickly that honest star ratings are not to be tolerated. Buying a cat to write about one. Now, that's extreme. What if the prompt is about an elephant? I would believe a dog poem would win just to defy the rules. Cheers, JB for a delightful story.

Thanks...the dog/cat/earliest childhood memories/graduation entry were all jabs at those prompts where entries that completely ignore the rules win! Been there, been victimized, now have vented...quietly. Cheers to you, Sweetie. JB
-
I forgot to mention the graduation jab. You really are clever, my friend.
Comment from Gloria ....
Deniz, what took you so long to come out with this? That was over a freaking year ago, and you're just getting around to writing about it now?! Procrastinate much? LOL ;-)
You hit many of the finer aspects of FanStory particularly relating to the member sponsored contests. I loved your last journal entry as that was a fine earliest memory from childhood indeed. Were you one of those boy prodigy genius types who graduated MIT at age six? Come on, admit it! You're really Tony Stark (Iron Man) aren't you.
I always get a charge out of your wit, dear man. So, write more please.
Gloria
PS: I bet you, it was you who won the cat prompt with a dog. Hrummmph!!!

Part of the dog/cat and earliest memories/graduation thingees was a jab at those who ignore prompt rules...and then win anyway! If you look in my portfolio (I always feel like a pompous ass when I mention "my portfolio" you will see a bunch of writings on the FS experience. So there! :)nice to hear from you witty lady yourownbadself! Dennis

This was really a funny piece, Deniz22. I can definitely relate to what you're writing about in this one. Especially the part about the stars and the egos. Write on, friend.

LOL. . .what can I say ;-) Every ecosystem has its own ecology (LOL).
(I always find myself wishing there was a "betting pool" for new member
"acclimation". )
I just keep telling myself. . .I get to write! I get inspiration when I'm running on empty. And every once in a while - - -I get some great advice 8-)

Just read your "inspiration" so see that I am preaching to the choir...great experiences on here, eh? Thank you so much for reading and commenting.Dennis
-
Truth?. . . Like any gathering of people, I have found you have a 1 in 20 chance of meeting/interacting with a kindred soul. I have had some "great" experiences here - - -and some truly frustrating times. But somewhere along the line, I "got" that it's just a game: part sport, part beauty pageant, part politics, part sunday services, and part literary nascence. And, I've meet a person or two, here and there, that manage to put a smile on my face :-)
-
I couldn't agree more. I think I was on here for 5-6 months before I really caught on to how the game is played. I can remember actually saying to myself, "I'm not PAYING people to read my stuff." Then I wondered why I only got a few reviews. :) Say what we will, this site does work. And frankly, I'm going to have to look up "nascene" hoping you didn't misspell nonsense. LOL Hope I can make you smile from time to time. Dennis
