How wonderful Sharyn. What a lovely, intricate and imaginative tribute to your father and your past. I absolutely love that you close by coupling the 17 year old with the future. Wink indeed!!

i hate cutting and pasting but the following are magnificent and i wanted you to know:

all tear-drops, like the shapes of the memories themselves.- lovely and poignant

There was one bakery for Aussie meat pies'n peas that I would have
crossed more than seven seas for, just to share in the shadow of the light-house,

with only the windsong, and the chorused blowing of grasses
and my dad for company.- big fat wonderful sigh

Xx

Nothing like a great treasure to be found :-) I have tried my hand at metal detecting. The most we've found was some old bottles. It was super cool. So, I enjoyed your writing! I'd like to see where she goes and what she finds. Very enjoyable!

Thank you so much Dee! Metal detector, hmm? only time I used one was to find a survey peg which was located where I thought it was and put paid to our neighbor's claims. Now THAT was fun! :) :)

Hello there Sharyn
Dear Lady, you are indeed a Wrod Smith. I loved this tribute to your father. You paint such vivid pictures, that it was easy to be right there with you on that adventure

A beautiful story and tribute to your father, who must have been a special person indeed.

As I read your words, I pictured that young seventeen year old, enjoying those moments with her dad. Something that some of us never had. But I enjoyed them vicariously through your poem.

Thank you for sharing.

Wrestling with the old-fashioned clasp, I give her a wink
as she embarks upon the search for buried treasure
mapped by her father, whose ship has long since sailed. She
sniffs the winds of the unknown, wondering ... about the journey ahead.

This is surely an epoch write girl with a wonderful ending for your daughter. I send her all the hope in the world.

My heart contracted as I absorbed the depth of the warmth in your relationship with your Dad, Sharyn.

Mine was a remote, distant one.

The free verse flows like a gentle stream ... almost like prose.

A worthy candidate for the contest, my dear Twin!
