Wow...this was a very moving, poignant poem. It's amazing what can trigger memories in us. In this instance, your descriptive writing had me rowing right there beside you and your father on the Brisbane River, in the early morning mangrove mists. I found the last line especially touching and sad.
Excellent!

Bless you Jacq ... he's been gone almost 25 years, but little things still bring him back - strange, hmm? :)Sharyn

I know exactly what you mean. I still miss my darling Dad, and wish my children and grandchildren had got to know him. My kids were very young when he died almost 24 years ago. Obviously not long after yours. :-(

This is so touching and so well put together. Your muse is flying high on the wings of creativity. I really enjoyed this poignant write, that obviously flowed from the heart.

Your lovely narrative poem with appealing lyrical elements illustrates vividly how a sound, word, or movement--in this case, a movement--can send us off on a pleasant nostalgic journey. Very good--enjoyable

Back and Forth is a sad and sweet poem.
We just never know what event will bring back memories.
My mom died just last month so right now, I am having things happen daily that bring memories of her flooding back.
Very well done
Janet :-)

It is amazing what we think about in the Gym, during those repetitive exercises. I enjoyed the report of your reveries. You must occasionally be creating some of your writing and posting. I do to escape the boredom. This write is very good and I enjoyed the read. Your friend, Bob

As a personal trainer I've spent many happy hours cajoling others through their daily routines. It's true that when you get in the zone not only does it become effortless but all sorts of other things start entering the mind and the picture you paint of rowing with your father on the brown Brisbane River is delightful. Happy memories no doubt. Well done, thanks for a lovely read this afternoon. Garth

What a lovely remembrance of your father. I can relate to this, as I often drift into memories as I'm sitting on the stepper in the workout room, pumping away and thinking all kinds of thoughts, from childhood memories to salacious daydreams. Nice poem!

Each time I read one of your poems, I am rewarded with a wonderfully worded picture of events. This one provides three scenes, starting at the gym that's filled with lithe bodies vying for mirror time. It regresses to wonderful, memorable times of your youth when you went sculling with your father. Then it morphs back into the present when you're sculling alone and wishing your son could have shared your earlier experiences. This one is so darn good, Sharyn.
