Congratulations on your well-deserved win. You obviously should write more free verse! You captured the wetlands' scene vividly, and I enjoyed your use of alliteration to intensify the mood. Your artwork choice is stunning as well. -Joan

Congratulations on winning the free verse contest with this lovely poem.
I enjoyed reading about all the sites and sounds you see at the wetlands as the sun rises.

Thank you so much, Melspoems, for your thoughtful review and congratulations. I believe you might have just recently won the ABC poetry contest (I think, but am not sure, that was the one). Congratulations to you too! Connie

Pictures, words, and emotions often cannot do justice to the actual experience, but your poem certainly brings the reader into the wetlands, helps share the dawning and the glory of nature.
Well done.

Connie, you certainly did take me to those wetlands.
All the reader's senses are evoked - the sight of the rising sun and the different birds, the sounds of the sparrows and frogs, and the flap of wings, the temperature, and the scent in the air. This sounds the most inspiring place to be in the early morning.
I really am not one to comment meaningfully on free verse, writing it so badly myself, so I will leave that to those with more experience. All I can say is that I enjoyed being taken on the trip.
Best wishes

Thank you, Sal, for such a lovely review. i'm so glad that you mentioned that "all the reader's senses are evoked." I was aiming for that, and you are the only one who mentioned it. Thank you so much, my friend. Connie xx

You certainly succeeded in your goal. This would do well as a travelogue. I love the lush descritions provided in this work.
It is a truly humbling experience trying to capture the essence of a place rather than an image

This is all very good, images taking us there, sketching the scene, making it real. There's a few things I would ditch as they interrupted the flow for me like "meanwhile" and I realize.... Just thinkin'.
