Loved the ending considering the opinion of his painting being trying the artist thought life is meaningless. Really good story.

I always find it fascinating to wonder what historical figures were really like, on a one to one level. All we're left by history is a mish-mash of propaganda, slewed preceptions and opinions to mix with people's memories of events they experienced from a single angle. I grew up in the 80s, and we've already got to the point where the popular representation of the decade is nothing like I remember it.
Anyway, I'm heading off topic. What I mean is that I enjoyed joining you as you studied Hitler's painting. This is almost like a very early Cracker, as Freud and Carl try to divine his personality from his expression. Great fun, and believably written. I very much enjoyed.

I feel a little smarter reading this. The ending really threw me. It makes sense that hitler's painting would reflect his character and the emptiness of his soul

Well, I loved that little twist at the end, and with that twist the untold story of the angel of death fell nicely into place. Did you every see the movie Dead Zone with a young Christopher Walken? I think they asked a question in that movie about Hitler, if you could of seen his future before it happened, even as a child, could you of killed him right then and there? Child or not!
It was an inspired write Jimi, thoroughly enjoyable friend!

An excellent story, Jimi. Very well written as all of your creations are. I liked this part especially:
It is as if the artist is trying to convey that life is meaningless and natural beauty is flawed. The flowers, they are wilted and parched, lifeless. It is quite depressing, at least for me."
Very descriptive of Hitler's frame of mind or lack thereof.
In closing, Freud would have had a field day with Adolph Hitler! Again, excellent creation, my very talented friend!
You deserve an A+ on this write!

Like O. Henry, you have a surprise ending. Throughout this short story the character of the artist is in the background yet it is the thread you cleverly stitch into the details. The reader's interest mounts and when the artist's name is read you have the perfect denouement to a great short story

I enjoyed this well written story with a twist. Had Freud met Adolf it is hard to say who would have needed help.
This was interesting as it ws an original topic. Look forward to reading more of your work

Oh drat, Jimi! My desire is to award you with a sixer but to no avail! This was an intriguing read. I half expected the artist to be his patient referred to in the first paragraph.
The ending is a wonderful treat and very clever.
Love the continued hint of suspense throughout and your terrific use of verbiage!
You're awesome.

Jimi,
This is an excellent story about Adolf Hitler's failed attempt to become an artist, and Sigmund Freud's happening to meet him. Is the picture you used something Hitler painted? I have seen reproductions of his work, and they seem rigid and lifeless.
I enjoyed this read and have a couple of comments:
"His office was just a few blocks north of RingstraBe, a broad boulevard with..." Your attempt to form a German double-s didn't work out, not with Evil Eddie. You may as well name the boulevard as "Ringstrasse."
"Yes, Carl, (you need a space here) I happen to concur with you."
