I wanted to add more to the character. Sorry, but I will be doing this occasionally throughout the book.

And the suspense builds good job with that. And this might be a little off beat here but, there is something wrong with our system when confidentiality forces an attorney to aid and abed a felon by not reporting evidence. Excellent writing as always and... Write On. -Dale

An attorney is permitted to come forward with information on a 'future crime' is knows of, but no, he cannot repeat anything including a confession that his client revealed to him. I agree, there has to be some way around this.

Looks like the next few chapters we are going to et more into the nitty gritty of this case/story.
What a hard thing it would have been, to go or bend the law that you have totally believed in.

I would think it would be quite hard for someone who holds the law in high esteem. Yes, the next few chapters will answer several questions.

8 lines from end: 'I doubt my opinion matter(ed.)
I love that last line. It is like an open invitation to the ball!(which makes me anxious to read on, big time!

Oh, boy what a cliff hanger! I can't wait to hear what Mac has to say. Mr.. Hurley has an important role to play in all this. The next chapter will be fascinating. Very well done.

I've often wondered how a lawyer could defend a guilty person...you just answered that question for me. This is a great chapter, as usual. I look forward to seeing what Mac has to say.

Mr. Hurley has told James a little about himself. He helped a guilty defendant. He knew the defendant was guilty. That is part of our justice system. The innocent and guilty have a right to a good lawyer.

Juries have grown up on CSI and forensic science./Jurors might make it sound more specific----He looked at me and asked, "Do you want a beer?"/As a lawyer, and James being only eighteen, I doubt Hurley would offer him a beer, unless the state this scene was in allowed 18-year-olds to imbibe.----I hope neither of you have plans for dinner, because you may have a lot to tell me, but I also have a lot to tell you."/Put a quotation mark before, I hope----You've written an informative chapter very well.

I agree with all your suggestions except the one about the beer. I know many lawyers AND police detectives that would offer a minor a beer, not in public of course.

Hi Smurphy
A short chapter that tells us much about the character of Mr. Hurley.
I suspect Mr. Hurley is probably based on a real person - your knowledge of the way people in the legal profession act and think suggests that.
Can't wait to find out what's in the letters.

I think he told him all that about the old case for a closer reason than what he hinted at. Hmmmm, like the way this one is moving and the side stories that add strength to your characters. Beautifully penned, you!!
