This is enchanting (an old fashioned
word, I know, but there's no other
word for it) I simply loved it, and
apart from two minor things to check,
it is so well told and presented, I
feel it's deserving of a six. You
are a real natural at these stories,
and should put them together in a
book for children.

Christopher(')s yellow
It also brought to mind the most beautiful umbrella I had from my first husband for my 19th birthday, which I took with me when visiting an Aunt & Uncle in Newcastle. We all went to a club to dance - and I hooked my umbrella on the washbasin in the ladies room and came out without it, and never saw it again - I actually cried, as I'd only had it two days... and after all, I was only 19.

A beautifully written story of childhood and the secrets thoughts of a child. You did a wonderful job of getting into the mind of a child and relaying his thoughts. I loved this one. Anne

This would be a good children's story. The little boy in the picture looks so happy. That is an age where children find pleasure in simple thing and when their imaginations can take them on wonderful journeys. Thanks for sharing and helping me remember when my own children and even I was in that happy innocent age.

Hi again Beth! I know, and I loved it when Sam was that age...a real joy. I was always sad...my son was always happy, always. I am so glad you have good memories. Did you see that I wanted the umbrella to sort of be the "main" character? It may be a bit jumbled? ANyway, thank you again! Susan

This is a delightful story and refreshing to be able to return to the innocence and joy a child finds in his day. I could picture Christopher seeing the frog and all his little thoughts as he carried on. I enjoyed your writing very much and appreciate your soul behind it.

Hi Cookie, thank you for being here. Yes, now, when I go thru a mud puddle, it's an aggravation. Little kids think it's neat! ") This is a bit like dancing, well...sort of? ") Susan

The exciting lmagnative life of a child brightens a child's day. This reminded me of a juvenile Walter Mitty. Very well written and held my interests.

Hi Charlie! Was Walter Mitty a baseball player? That name is so familiar. Maybe I'm thinking of Walter Matthau? Oh, I'm so confused. OH, and I found the book! I am going to order it next payday if I can...thank you again C!! Susan

Walter Mitty is a character created by James Thurber. He was a daydreamer who escaped in his daydreams.

Susan, you have written a beautiful story here about the little boy with the rainbow umbrella. If you wanted to I think you could also turn it into a story for children to read. It flows along very well.

Susan,
Apostrophes? I didn't see any out of place. I enjoyed this read and have a couple of other suggestions:
"The rains of spring soaked the winter away and it was on a gray April morning that Christopher first used the umbrella his mother had given him for his seventh birthday." This sentence is very long and contains, IMHO, too many words. I'd write, "The rains of spring soaked the winter away. On a gray April morning Christopher first used the umbrella his mother had given him for his seventh birthday."
"I almost got you, Mr.. (an extra dot should come out) Toad, I'm sorry."
