Yes, I enjoyed this very much. Beautifully written and put a smile on my face. I am sure Judian will find this equally beautiful and deeply touched by it. Very nice work with this one.

Thank you :-). I don't often write this type of thing, but I wanted Jude to know how much I appreciate her repeatedly brilliant poetry. I'm so glad you enjoyed the read!

Your sonnet is in excellent form, Mike, from the iambic meter to the strong rhymes. I like the near rhyme of gift/resist in the closing couplet. Also, excellent use of alliteration in this fine sonnet written in honor of your friend. Brooke :-)

Thank you, Brooke :-). I seem to be writing everything in iambic meter at the moment, but that's okay! I also love stretching the boundaries of rhyme!

This is very engaging. I especially like the first stanza.
JJ sounds like one heck of a writer!
You know I hang upon many of your lines, because I don't want to miss any lovely morsel.
Well done.

Thank you, Maxine :-). I've been inspired by so many of her poems, it was only a matter of time before she became the subject of one of my own!

Fleedleflump, how well you have described this incredible human being and poetess!! In a beautiful sonnet no less!!! [ I am envious..lol..well many a truth is said in jest.] I am far from an expert on sonnets. I have been challenged to write one and am I struggling..this seems to flow so perfectly, so musicly. I am sure Jude is so thrilled. well done..thoroughly enjoyed..jlsavell

The best advice I can offer for writing in iambic meter is to see if it soubds 'right'. If it's awkward to read, chances are the word stresses are not alternating properly. Before you know it, suddenly it's difficult to write without the meter!

Wish I had the sixer deserves, a wondrous tribute to one of my favorite poets.

Love your ending:So every time we hang upon a line
wrought by her scribe's illuminating eye,
think of the poet hid twixt her designs -
the dreamer, feeler, family inspired.

In harmony with her poetic gift,
she is the note musicians can't resist.

Both you and your muse have the rare gift of molding words into images. And you both seem to favor playful alliteration. "...cousin of a parchment's sheet" is inspired. But your finale "... the note musicians can't resist..." How much do you want for that line? I mean cash... hard money... how much? I'm just a newcomer around here, but I'm glad Jude has such good and talented friends.

Peace, Lee

lol, thanks Lee. As with all the best lines, that one came with no agonising or soul-searching. It just plopped from my head via my fingers (technical term). Thanks for the great review :-)

Words and music equal song, and it seems that this is written for a singer of songs. Lovely imagery and use of metaphor...yep I enjoyed the read.

First and foremost, was there any particular reason you wanted to bring me to tears today? Is it because I would blend in nicely with our very, very rainy weather outside?
I am so touched and honored, my dear friend. Not only is it a wonderful tribute but a marvelous, perfect sonnet to boot! I LOVE the first verse ... I LOVE the second verse!!
The third verse is so me and the couplet ... more tears flowed. (what a fabulous final line, Mike) It is so worthy of a six, not because it's about me but because it is brilliantly executed using interesting and difficult rhymes without the slightest blip to meter. Needless to say, I cannot give you one. I hate this ridiculous rule! Grrrrr. Thank you again, Jude
Superb and did I happen to mention that I LOVE IT? BRAVO!!

I was sitting on my homebound train, at the end of an extremely busy week, and was struck with a strong urge to write you something. I'm so glad you like the result :-)))))))

I am absolutely thrilled with it and it DOES deserve a six star rating. I guess I can't bestow another on you until November ...

A wonderful tribute to one of our better poets. She does have a unique writing ability that sets her apart from the crowd and yet draws the crowd in.
Well done, Buck

Thanks Buck :-). I've always admired her randomly rhyming, rambling free verse, and yet she can tackle the most daunting of forms in her next breath. It was high time I wrote her something. So glad you enjoyed!
