The things we remember. 14 years down the road I take it all the children are still at home.
Your story remind me of our present situation. 'Oh yes mum, please, we will take her for her walks, feed her, bathe her, please can we have her.' That was 17 years ago. They never did anything for her and now they are all grown up, married and living in their own homes, but she is still here. She loves us, waits until I go to my bed before she follows to lie on the floor at the side of my bed.
Sorry your words have started me off.
You relate a loving experience shared with your family, the birthday party, the fondness is all there.
Well written and amusing story.

The story happened in 1996, so my three kids are all out of the house. Thank you for commenting.

I like the story and the I like the fact that you treated the puppy like a small child. It's amazing gets adopted into the family and becomes a member.
I enjoyed the story.

Oh this is great - and reminds me so much of the day my two daughters and I went to choose the two Basenji pups that were to become part of our lives for the next 15 years. I love the way you pull us in to this story, making us believe you were reluctantly becoming a father for the fourth time. Nicely written - good luck in the contest.

June, thank you so much.

What a cute story. I thought you were having another baby until you started talking about the price. I'm sure that is what you meant for us to think. Those little dogs some how manage to become so much a part of our lives that we consider them family.

Oh, you had me almost hating you as brash uncaring father of a new baby. As a dedicated dog lover myself, I love the twist in the "tail"

Hmmm...Kind of emotional piece...
Thanks for sharing...
it's kind of tough to rate a non fiction...How can one rate one's feelings and emotions or the conflicting circumstances one has faced in one's life...
Anyways, all the best!
I pray for your good...
God bless you and your family...
Wish u the best for the contest...
Love and Regards,
Sid

I enjoyed looking at the visual introduction to this story. The story is perfect in its conception and imaginative projection of family life. The writing focuses on a very topical issue pets and their influence on family lie. This tale of family life would be a good read for children and parents alike.

Children do change our lives. We may not want them initially but once they make an entrance, they take the whole world with them.
wonderfully put.

This is a clever entry for the 'I Remember' contest. You had me convinced the new member was a humen member. Very fun read. Good luck in the contest.
