The flow was good. The theme was excellent! Your descriptive words were very good for explaining your ideas and your feelings. They were very understandable and comprehensible.
I saw no SPAG and no typos. Everything looked in place.

Your poem is beautiful, emotional and very well done. It definitely is a good fit for the contest. I'm sorry about your Mom's cancer. As you may know, I am dealing with both my brother and sister fighting cancer. Your poem clearly gives the message of the appreciation of life after dealing with someone who has cancer and fights every day.

If we truly stopped, no matter what our daily routine might be...stopped long enough to notice the leaves that have fallen and the sun that shines, and the mountains that guard us, imagine how much happier we'd be. Instead we choose to notice, dwell on, the bad things in life and be miserable.
Your poem was written well except for the line "free from the chains that bound me, lying in despair..." To me this seems contradictory, considering the next stanza speaks of all that is beautiful and good- lying in despair is not in context with these good wonderful things that surround it..
I truly wish you and your family peace and hope. Knowing, if she beat cancer once then she is more fortunate than most.
I wish for her to get well.

Did you mean to say 'this dark night sorrow?' Sorrow is the grey blanket we wrap ourselves in until we are ready to again begin. Sorry about your mom and it takes a lot of time to heal but the Lord knows you are hurting and he knows that mom is but a heartbeat away. When she crosses over she will be free of pain and able to watch over you. Blessings. You did not slaughter the poem as you put it. You wrote it from your heart and that is how I read it.

it flows form beginning to end without a hitch or pause
the content is expressed with a great deal of perception and wisdom
you have reached the reader with your style and grace of poetic ability
that surely means success for you and your piece personally at least and for your mum; that is all that matters
