The rictameter seems to be a very good vehicle for your "penance" theme. "Releases one of guilt and shame" is a very powerful resonating line. Thanks for sharing. You should do an "on-line" book of this form.

Penance is not a word used much anymore - and boy, it should be. Our society tends to be hedonistic and if people would just take a look at themselves and see the truth, "I'm sorry. Please forgive me." would give them such relief. I think, as your rictameter so wisely states, atonement and forgiveness renews faith in mankind. Excellent contest entry. Best of luck to you. No_obstacle, penance is ours for free. Thank goodness we don't have to jump through hoops to have self-examination and do where our hearts take us from there.
