This is such a tragedy Cecilia that happens to many young women, but you are lucky to be alive. There are some cases where the boyfriend kills the young girl. We have a case here in Orlando now like that and I hope they give the creep the death penalty. I believe your mother did believe you, but she was in denial because she loved a man and thought he could never do something like that, it happens all the time. Keep your head up, I know that is hard, but it is your life, don't make it harder than it has to be, or HE WINS! YOU have to go on and succeed in your life and I know your WILL!

Harry,
Thank you for the kind review. Writing is therapeutic for me. I have a journal that the public will never see that I write my feelings in and it helps a lot. I have come a long way from the girl I was. HE won't win. I don't let HIM rent space in my head. I am a stronger person because of this trauma.

Hi Cecilia, I feel your pain through your words. I'm so sorry you went through this. I don't know if I told you that I was sexually abused too by my family. I also had many years of counseling. I still have nightmares about the abuse. God has helped me to deal with it. Keep close to him and he will help you.
Your poem is well written and heartfelt. Love. Your friend, Brenda

Brenda,
Thank you for the kind review. I am sorry you had to go through it. God has helped me through a lot of it. I still have days when I can't deal with it though. It has made me a strong person though.

That is a heartfelt sad poem. It is so sad that you had to experience that trauma and to have your mother not believe and support you. I think that writing this poem was probably therapeutic for you (although not the entire answer). Please continue with your healing journey, as best you can. You are a fantastic writer and, I am sure, an incredible person. Best of luck in the contest! Evi

My heart is aching, Sis! Everyone of us would like to wipe that slate clean and find a new beginning with each new breath, but it's a struggle when dark things keep clawing and clinging to our thoughts. I pray you can find away to "pack it" away and show them that your life is worth more than their pain that they gave you. Let those who love you hold your hand and help erase the sorrow.
Smiles and hugs, Carol

Sister,
Thank you for the great review. You know most days I am okay, but somedays the emotions are overwhelming, I have lived my life the best I can. Christmas is the toughest because it happened around that time.

Comment from Tim Margetts
You've written something that doesn't flinch, Cecilia, and I admire that immensely. There's no dressing up the pain here-no forced metaphors or dramatic flair-just honesty, stripped down to its emotional truth. That choice makes it hit harder than any flourish ever could.
Lines like "I just can't remember what to let go of" and "Thank you, mom, for the support / Because of you I'm numb inside" are devastating in their quiet delivery. You say exactly what needs to be said, it mirrors the numbness, the exhaustion, the need to just get the words out.
This isn't about catharsis so much as exposure-showing what's still there, what never really left. And that takes enormous strength.
The repetition of "Put on a happy face" works perfectly-it closes the poem like a mask being pulled into place, again and again.
I felt every word of this.
Love and hugs always, Tim x
I have no 6's left so I hope you will accept my virtual one.

Tim,
Thank you for the great review. Writing helps but there still so much anger inside me that I keep suppressed. I live my life the best I can. Sometimes I wonder had it not happened what my life could have been.

Sadly, your mother was never there for you at a time when you most needed her support and understanding. And, instead, the abuse was exacerbated by being blamed in this horrific way. I'm so sorry you've suffered this and your childhood has been marred so memorably. Hopefully, you'll be able to find a counsellor who can help you relegate your pain completely to the past. You deserve that. Thank you for sharing your experience so honestly and movingly. Love Debbie

I think it's terrible when one's own flesh won't believe or support their child, I could never do anything else, one's children and grandchildren are that special, they are irreplaceable, beautifully written Cecilia,, blessings Roy

Roy,
Thank you for the kind review. My mother was a piece of work. She lived in her own world. It hurt that she didn't believe me, but I learned from that point on to rely on nobody, but myself.

Dolly,
Thank you for the wonderful review. My mother was a piece of work that's all I got to say about that. We didn't have a very good relationship as you can imagine. I have let go a lot of it, but every now and then something triggers the memories. Writing is very therapeutic for me.

I'm so sorry that you had that horrible experience. I had something like it, too, so I can relate. So many of us experienced that kind of trauma. But I know you know God and He is healing us each day.
Have you ever read The Body Keeps Score? I am listening to it, and it's shocking how many American households have had this.
I think for your mom, she couldn't accept the possibility because she would be guilty of allowing that to happen and that would be too hard for her to accept. Denial is a pretty common response.
Sending hugs and prayers for God to heal those traumatic memories!

Helen,
Thank you for the kind review. God has helped me get past the worst of it. I still have days that it hits me hard, but I put on my big girl panties and move on. I really don't have much of a choice. I turned out okay.

Of course, you did! Because you are God's precious and beautiful child and perfect workmanship and we are created to give Him glory with the gifts He gave us. Don't ever forget how much He loves you!! 💖🙏

I'm so glad you are able to express your deep distress in sad but touching poetic words. It is doubly sad when an abused child tells a trusted loved one and is not believed. I feel so terrible about that and I'm so sorry you were left to deal with this awful pain your whole life. I do know giving our burdens over to a loving God can often help because we know He really does understand the depths of our sorrow and can comfort us in ways we never imagined. I just hope you find relief and peace. I'm so sorry for what you've suffered. Keep writing. You're very good at it. MM

MissMerri,
Thank you for the kind review and compliments. My writing has helped me a lot. I have more poems that I wrote that will never get published. They are my thoughts and it helps getting it out there. It is a healing balm for me.
