I certainly agree with your author note!
I really like your first two lines, but "lesson" does not fit IMHO (with no suggested alternative).
Consider using a lighter font. The heavy red gives me a war-like feeling, which is not the impression you likely seek for this contest entry.

This is a good writing for the 242 contests and I wish you the very best in the contest. I only have one suggestion and that it would be if you would make your font color in a white on the dark background it would be much easier to read. Patricia.

You achieved the idea for a 2-4-2 submission, however, the font selected is disturbing and blurred. Maybe it is the program I am using but I don't see it reading others.
