two comments. Scientists have concluded that there are now two subspecies of coyotes in the U.S. The first is the traditional coyote which is essentially a wild dog closely related to both wolves and dogs. the second which is becoming the most common has been dubbed coydog. a coydog is a mixture of coyotes, wolves, and feral dogs Coydogs have learned how to deal with humans including how to safely cross a road whereas coyotes have not figured that same thing with wolves.

Thank you for the kind review. They are scary. I think if I was at your cabin I'd carry a gun on those walks. You never know how they will act.

I imagine the sound of a coyote must be terrifying if you are out by yourself in the wilderness and you hear it, it would make anyone think they are closing in on you ready to attack. A well written piece, Cecillia, I enjoyed reading it.

Thank you for the kind review. They are frightening. Sometimes there are 3 or 4 packs around the neighborhood and they howl and then the rest of packs answer. It gives a chill down the spine. Kratos the pit bull won't stay outside by himself at night.

I know that it's the common grounds of nature but it still gives me chills to think that the coyote is stalking the other animals and killing them. silly, huh? I'm just a sissy at heart and want everyone to get along even the animals...That's not the law of nature though.
Smiles, Carol
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU and I hope it's a special one.

Thank you for the birthday wish. Yes, unfortunately, the food chain must continue on. Coyotes are opportunistic hunters. They like cats and dogs they don't care.

I can tell you're very familiar with coyotes because your lovely free verse realistically captures this interplay of nature's night creatures. I've never heard them in real life but I know their howl and I like the way they dominate your poem and bring a rather haunting yet playful tone to it. Well done, Cecilia, and Happy Belated Birthday! Thank you Debbie for the kind review. Thank you also for the birthday wish. Yes, coyotes are scary. We have 3 or more packs out here where I live and when they start howling in unison, it's spine chilling.
