I think it has to do with the way FanStory is set up. Poetry gives the reader more bang for their buck, so to speak. Even in the prose category, most posts are less than 1000 words and would be considered micro fiction by many other sites. It's rare to read a true short story as readers consider them too long. Personally, if it's good, I'll read it no matter the length or the payout.
Do what moves you, Terry. I was never a poet until joining FS, but I like the variety of forms. It's nice to work outside one's comfort zone now and then.

LOL! I love that poem, Terry! Who said you can't write poetry? LOL. You are right, there are far more poems posted than there are prose. Many poets post two a day; I can't write one chapter of my books in under a week. Poems, I've eased off, but still put one on now and again just to remind myself how to write them. We have lost so many exceptional prose writers; many were called home by God, others just left. I'm starting again tomorrow. I enjoyed reading this and really loved your poem!! :)) Sandra xx

Sandra, I overlooked the novelists. We do have a really good group of novelists on site. I'm glad you got all the humor! Terry.

Terry, I think you were looking over my shoulder when you wrote this. You're probably one level above me on the poetry side, but I review both. I've tried poetry, but not often. I still have trouble getting past the limerick stage. However, I read the poetry to learn and have put a few out there to see how I fare. Oddly enough, I've gotten some good reviews. So, my suggestion to you is just do it. You'll be surprised at the help you receive, along with the comments. Most of all, have fun. By the way, I liked your poem. Good luck and be well, Frank.

I was glad to see your post, fellow prose writer. I enjoy reading poetry IF it flows smoothly and rhymes. However, I write prose and prefer reading prose regardless of the length. Yes, I've read pieces that were 2500 words for .52 cents. But, I enjoy a good novel if I get 3 longs chapters a week, or just one. I've attempted poetry, but it takes me too long to think of how to say what I want to say in rhymes.
I'm glad you posted prose AND poetry. I enjoyed both.

Hi Terry,
I have to agree with you. It seems like there are a lot more poets than when I first started on here. I read the poets, some of them anyway, and I agree, there are some really great ones on here, and those not so great. I prefer reading stories, and that is primarily what I write, in part I guess because I'm so long winded, and a poem describing one of my stories would go on for multiple paragraphs, putting the reader to sleep. Well done. Don't give up on the prose, please.
Have a blessed day.

Thanks, Tom. This was intended for a bit of humor along with a bit of truth. I doubt I'll ever be a poet. My father was, but I'm more along the lines of BS! Terry.

You post is hilarious Terry and you made me laugh here. There are good writers on both sides who write poetry and prose and I like to read it all. Of course my favourite is poetry and it does seem to be more popular. You keep us going with your unusual posts, this one definitely made me smile, especially the bit about reading poets we don' t understand, but we still praise them! Love Dolly x x x

This is a funny story. I have noticed tge same thing. I've only been on Fanstory for 10 months. I noticed many more people write poems. I try to write both. I'm learning how to write poems. Well written.

I write prose, but if it's not short, no one reads it because we all need the gold coins to promote our work and get more constructive criticism. What a catch-22. However, I couldn't write a poem to save my life, so good job you. Your poem made me chuckle, and I think I even understood it. Good luck with your poetry career. Like the elf says: "Is it nobler to write poetry or prose?" gayla

Thank you for sharing your poem and this post with us. My answer it's nobler to write prose, novels to be exact. LOL I have fun reading. I'm sure you had fun writing.
I think it would also indicate a whole lot more poets who likely don't review prose unless it's for the promotion money. (I always post high and get very frustrated because, the majority of the poets I read only post 1 - 2 and never read me. I don't feel it's fair.)

Barbara, I meant no slight by not mentioning the novelist. As a group, I think the novelists I have read are outstanding. I have a hard time reading them as they are posted. I have done that twice, but I like to read novels at my own pace, which is why I prefer to buy your books.
Thanks for reading. Terry.

I do understand. I wish I didn't have to spilt my chapters the way I do. I have to because nobody will read a longer chapter. I know you weren't slighting the novelist. You're too sweet to do anything like that. I just had to mention the few of us on this site.

I love the poem, Terry! You're a natural! And I'm also very amused by your prose. It shouldn't be one or the other. I actually join you in the grievance and frustration of sometimes not understanding verse. We're in the game here of communication. I don't get why we wouldn't want to make ourselves understood. Poetry shouldn't be like a cryptic puzzle and, if it is, it's probably the fault of the writer, not you (If you haven't already, do try and read Patrick Bernardy's amazing essay on communication. Finally, I've no problem in this regard with your verse but I would love to see a visual of a little elf as well because I'm just plain greedy! Thank you, Terry, for sharing your delightful piece which I enjoyed. Look forward to seeing you here on the dark side:)) Take care Debbie

Debbie, thank you. I can not imagine the amount of research it takes and the creative approach you use to write your Celebrity Poems. I think you may have created a new class of poetry. I'm just an old man remembering his childhood in the front yard after a good rain, making mud pies. Thanks for reading. Terry.

The trouble is, it's all become a bit like hard work. Yesterday, I did a short verse and couldn't believe what fun it was and how quickly it was done. But keep up the poetry, Terry. It's a whole lot easier than prose because you can take liberties with your grammar and creativity:))
