Well said - but I am afraid this is the current reality. In Australia I don't think we have it quite as bad, but I hope we don't follow the US in these trends eg our voting and political opinions are usually kept pretty quiet, as we consider such things to be private, so it doesn't destroy too many friendships. It's a rapidly changing world. Your poem is well expressed and logical - and I send best wishes for the contest.

You've certainly covered a lot of bases in this post. Things and people has changed, and in so many ways not for the better. Thanks for sharing.......................................

Thank you, Ric. Yes, things keep changing and I have to walk on eggshells around my own kids. That don't seem to realize that Mama knows best. LOL

Amen! I liked all your contemplations and I still think true friends remain friends even if we disagree politically or otherwise. I liked your fun comment about tweets and rabbit holes. It used to only mean a digression. I guess it means conspiracy now?

Your lines "Remember when the news told us what was happening
rather than some anchor's spin or what we should believe;" made me think of Tucker Carlson. Ah, I miss good old Walter Cronkite!

Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you, Helen. I always feel a little out of my element when dealing with free verse. When it doesn't sound like poetry, I'm not sure I'm doing it right. I'm glad you liked it.

They say our memory is failing, but I don't agree. We remember the good times and the way life was a lot simpler than the way it is now. I wish I could go back to those days. You did an excellent job, Beth. Wish I had a six for this one.

yes - this poem portrays for us the dizzying changes that are taking place all around us at what seems like lightning speed - its hard to keep up sometimes! Well observed and documented. Wish I had 6 remaining

Tell me, when did the spaceship come and take us off that planet? I guess when the changes started, I was living a bit too loosely and did not notice as I should. I miss those days of innocence.

Thank you, Jim. Looking back, it really doesn't seem that long ago things were very different from the way they are today.

Wow.this poem really struck a chord with me! Reading through each of the stanzas my reading glasses was nodding I'm agreement, I often say I wish some.things were just like the old days, when life was simpler. My kids are shocked to hear how things were when I was growing up and they agree that some things they even wish never became so prominent, like social media well done and good luck I'm the contest!
Best Wishes

An interesting nostalgic reflection on the past. I often think about this and wonder why the world now seems so much more complex and disturbing. Social media and instant news and messaging have certainly changed things and the jury's out for me as to whether it's better or worse, probably the latter. But I think, fundamentally, when we're younger we can take life more in our stride, distracted by more practical issues of raising a family and working. As we age, we become more fazed by progress and change and get easily out of our depths. Thank you for sharing your thought-provoking, fluently expressed free verse, a pleasure to read. Good luck! Debbie

Thank you for reviewing my poem. I hate that people seem to get so upset if you opinion does match theirs, there was a time we could agree to disagree without anyone getting upset.
