Great call by Rachelle to reserve the "shotgun" seat. Hopefully, that will make the rest of their drive a bit more tolerable especially if the front seat can be partitioned off from the back.
It's great that Rebekah and Maria hit it off immediately. Another great call by Rachelle!

This road trips reminds me of the movie Thelma and Louise. I love that movie but this adventure in your story line is way better. Who knows what will happen to these two ladies. I can't wait to continue the journey as I read the storyline.

Hahaha. There's a couple members on here who are always referring to themselves as Thelma and Louise.

Gretchen and I are more like Yin and Yang!

Thanks for your very nice review.

Hello Rachelle,
I can't imagine the range of emotions this child is going to experience, but her initial meeting with Maria sounds like a stellar one. What a complete and utter change of lifestyle though. I imagine it would be overwhelming.
I loved the way you texted Rebecca and let her know you were available no matter what. It's obvious that she is well loved.
The description of the wrap around porch is delightful, complete with dangling wind chimes, and I love the way a wrought iron fence looks. It's nice to know that the owner, while obviously well to do, isn't snooty.
One last thing, it was great to see loud mouth put in her place. I imagine it won't be the last confrontation with her. Well done gal, I really enjoyed this chapter.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

Oh, definitely she is in my crosshairs now that I don't have to worry about my impressionable teenage ward. The gloves will be off in the biggest way. As Gretchen describes it in her chapter, "a come-to-Jesus meeting is in the works." It sounds like you'll be cheering me on from the sidelines, Tom!!! xoxox Thanks for this warm and delightful review. xoxox

Maria seems lovely; it is so nice of her to take Jane down a peg or two. This is well written, with a great description of Maria. Will you be keeping us informed about Rebekah's time with her? Blessings. Carol

I'm sure Rebekah will be ALLLLL about texting and calling, since they're such new commodities to us!!

Thanks for this really nice review, Carol. I always love it when a reviewer is this level of specific about what "landed" with them. Very, very helpful. xoxox

Such a sweet and fun chapter this was, Rachelle. I could really sense your hesitance about Rebekah's new situation, wondering what she will make of it. So far, everything seems to be going well for her, and she appears to be adjusting to and enjoying her new situation. What a marvelous opportunity you've afforded her, and it sounds like you chose a great teacher for her.

Jane, as always, was her obnoxious self, and it was gratifying to see Maria dress her down. Great idea of yours to call shotgun on the last leg of the journey, and Gretchen's reaction was priceless.

I loved your text to Rebekah and her reaction to it as well.

This was a heartwarming and amusing chapter in a very memorable book.

I hope Rebekah will decide to pursue her musical ambitions. Maria is already impressed with her. and the two are getting along so well already. I can't understand why the Amish persist in holding their children back if they don't choose life on the farm. They make it so difficult for children with talent and aspirations. Maria really puts Jane in her place. Just what kind of place does Jane live in, anyway? Jane will be sulking all the way to the convention. Great job of showing how proud Rachelle is of Rebekah and her desire to see the girl pursue her musical career. Another wonderful chapter. judi

Thanks, Judi. Yes, it's so sad how the Amish hold their children back. In that way, it seems very cult-like to me. I used to be in the Jewish Orthodoxy, which is also very patriarchal, but they do ALLOW for branching out, becoming educated, etc. The females who do so aren't the NORM certainly, but they're not restricted from doing so.

Thank you very much for this nice review, Judi. Xo

I am so glad Jane was put in her place. I can't wait so read what happens with Rebekah. Will she grow into the musician she was meant to be or return to her Amish lifestyle. It could go either way. I do enjoy reading this story.

So, now, we declare war on Jane. She deserves it. She is an attention whore. I loved the moment between you and Rebekah where she reads the text and puts her head on your shoulder. It was subtle yet very moving. A little jewel of intimacy. It was a scene that will stick in my mind. Another beautiful chapter, my friend. Gretchen

another good chapter with your personality shining through. I know you don't plan to go on with this story forever, but I do hope we get to see Rebekah's reaction to her training, etc. since we, too, have become fond of her.
Also, Jane deserves to walk the rest of the way; a great villain if there ever was one. Good for you for shutting her up, at least temporarily.

Ohhh, just wait for two-against-one car ride, when Gretchen and I don't have to worry about the presence of an impressionable Amish teenager in the mix! Can we say "free for all?"

Maria gets a standing ovation today for her quick response to Jane and, of course, her immediate love for Rebekah. The poor girl must think she's gone to Heaven and back with the change in life from where she's been living. Great chapter.
Smiles, Carol
