What a treasure Mikey was, I have three grandsons just like him, even a seventeen year old, no wonder Jesus said, unless you come as a little child, you cannot see the kingdom of God, that goodness is precious to God, beautifully written Carol, blessings Roy

I am sure that little angel face of his got him through the pearly gates, but I bet St. Peter had to have a long talk with him before he got to meet the Lord. LOL

Boundaries. You could have had a very sick dog. I was always a taking thing apart to see what things look like inside, and what makes things work. My youngest liked taking clocks apart. Until he learned whenever he messed with something that was not his without permission he would have consequences. After that, he didn't mess with what he shouldn't. I gave him puzzles. He loved putting stuff together too. Children are our joy. Karen

My problem is two fold....One the story is fiction and posted as such.....but it is drawn from my memories. the side of the coin is that I only really have these kind of memories from 3 to 4. He probably would have grown up to be a mad scientist. LOl And it happened 44 hears ago...things were a lot different....thanks, Karen

Lol! I guess that is why God made me a man. I am not sure I would have the patience to put up with the disasters children make. Even though I raised my children I don't know how I survived but this reminds me of some of the disasters I had to avoid. Great work Carol. Keep it up.

My other children were not like Mikey but he had a lot of memories to make in four short years. I am thankful for them.

Children can definitely cause a mess when baking, this reminded me of baking with my Nan when I was young, she always used to make sure I was being careful and never let me lick the spoon after mixing. A well written piece, Carol, I enjoyed reading it.

I've always had my children and grandchildren in the kitchen with me so I guess the mess was always part of the deal...except Mikey always carried it further. And what...no licking the spoon?

You should get a Great Mom award! I don't think I would have been so patient especially when I had a baking deadline. Yet I can see how precious this memory is now. What a creative little nonstop bundle of energy Mikey was!

I think God knew I wouldn't have him long and that I needed memories to sustain me. He must have given me an extra dose of patience during that time because otherwise I can't explain it. He was always into something and smiling while he did it.

What a child! You must have been kept so busy when he was little! An endearing story, filled with a child's mischief and his big innocent heart. Very well written.

I believe God gave me a special dose of patience to get me through those short years so I would have all the memories to look back on and smile.

Pets do make life more interesting. I really thing every child needs a "patches" in their lives. Pets teach kids so many things, including how to be responsible.
And they teach parents . . . patience. HA!
Fun.

I agree... Every child needs a Patches in their lives. She had the patience to let the small children treat her as if she was a horse and the bigger ones would race around the yard with her...and she always stole the ball.
thanks so much, Doug.

This is a cute story. I admire your calmness and composure while baking with a four-year-old. That can be quite a challenge. It's cute that Mikey took his lessons to heart and tried to teach them to the dog. Blessings. Carol

I've always been in the kitchen with my children, my grandchildren, and even when I owned the catering business. Mess was just part of it. Now Mikey...well, God must have blessed me with an extra dose of patience for his four short years.

God always supplies what we need. I love it when my grands want to cook with me, especially the youngest. He will actually eat what he helps cook!

I love this story because it depicts the sweet innocence of young children who want to learn and try things. This story reminded me of my childhood when my mother gave me actual pie crust dough to play with. It reminded me of my little daughter as we made sugar cookies together.
I join you in recalling these sweet memories of times so long ago. By putting your stories in writing, they become immortalized.

Thanks, Lorraine.... I've lost so many people that at times it feels like all I have is the memories. Maybe writing the stories brings them back for a moment at least.

What a cute story about learning to bake a cake. My son used to watch me like a hawk as I cooked, and he is a great cook now. It may be a bit messy, but letting kids cook is a great idea and this adventure was very amusing.

My mother (rest her beautiful soul) wasn't a good cook - maybe because she thought everything had to be overdone. but when I was around my aunt it was different. She loved to cook and taught me and I seemed to pass it on to my kids and grandkids. Memories!
