Oh, Beth, I feel for you. I've had a few nightmares with three different cable companies over the years, but Spectrum was the worst. Like you, I pay everything the minute it's due in full. I never carry a balance anywhere. But Spectrum picked up their equipment and I was supposed to be cancelled, then six months later they sent me a bill for service and an astronomical amount for the stuff they'd picked up. LOL. I never paid them another dime; although, I was concerned, since I'd never had a ding on my credit. So, I just spent two-hundred dollars for an attorney's letter explaining the possibility of having to file a suit, and all the court costs involved. I never heard another word. Thanks for sharing, and sorry for the ramble.

    Thank you RIc. I hate dealing with these service companies. Everyone seems to have problems. The fact my rant won makes me feel a little bit better. Lol

I feel your pain on this one. I had a company that I was dealing with when I was living alone, and they kept billing me for a bill that I was not going to pay because I had disconnected the service. They kept calling me and finally one day they called me and told me that if I did not pay, they were gonna take me to court. I said to them if you don't quit calling me, I will go to my neighbors who all have their service and I would encourage them not to continue with their service any longer. That statement stop them from even bothering me again Patricia.

An excellent rant. These big companies like to bully and harass people and frighten them until they get what they want. Good for you to stand up for yourself and refusing to bow to their demands. Great rant. Best wishes for the contest.

I had that same problem with the gas and electric company. In the end, after I had a letter from the debt collector, I got in touch with a solicitor. They sent a letter, then they phoned the company. It took months! But I'm not harassed anymore. It's wrong, isn't it? Now, here in the UK, most calls are recorded, so they can't say we did, or didn't, do something. The big boys think they can get away with it. I'm with you on this, Beth, don't pay them. If you are sent to prison, I'll start a rally and get you out!!!!

G.E. would call it progress, but I am with you, it's one rip off at a time. I mean we can only watch one station at a time I haven't had cable since '87, Savings over $37,000

    Thank you Tom. Good for you. I hardly ever look at it but now. that I'm getting the channel for free, I check out the startiions occassionally.

I would send them a letter with all this same information that you shared on here and send a copy to the Better Business Bureau as well as the Credit Bureau. This is NONSENSE that they feel it's acceptable to bully you in this way. I'm very sorry this happened to you, Beth, but stand up to them and be a bulldozer! xoxo

Oh you shouldn't get me started on so-called 'smart' TVs but I honestly wish we could turn the clock back to a time when TV were simple and workable. How awful Beth, these TV and phone providers are a nightmare. I have an internet service with a company called Movistar in Spain and I cancel it during the summer months. You are required to take the rooter box back to the shop and it did that and they sent mean email to prove I had returned it. A few months later they threatened to charge me 85 euros per month until I returned the rooter! I sent them a copy of the email and then they apologised and I reversed the payment at the bank rather than wait for a refund. The following year I did the same thing and did not receive an email to prove I had returned the rooter and I refused to leave the shop until the email was received!

These companies try to cheat you out of your money and they don't like it when you cancel their service. My husband had a mobile phone and they refused to cancel it when he died as they said the contract had to run until the end of the term. I refused to pay it and they send paperwork threatening to take my husband to court! I said good luck with that! It was very stressful at the time, but I can laugh about it now.

This sounds like my cable company! The bill goes up seemingly every month as they shrink my "lineup" of channels. Every time I call them to cut back to minimum basic and "save money" they add on another service charge and (like black magic) I get less, and the next bill goes even higher.
Are all these TV providers one giant conglomerate who have one goal only? To drive us stark raving mad? I think so!

    Thank you Karenina. Dealing iwth the TV service providers is a game that is rigged against you. I get nauseated when I see that monthly bill come it. I determined not to pay for the extra month when I wasn't using their service.

    The whole thing is some kind of "Ponzi" scheme. Every time I call to talk about reducing services it ends up costing me money!

A cable company got me about the same way back in the 70s, back when a credit rating was important.
