Interesting poem but depressing. I don't like a doomed vision of the future. I'm not a fan of apocalypse movies or stories. I know your poem is based on the Bible but it's still grim.

Thanks for your excellent review. You missed the image of hope in Christ's face on the moon. There is hope here, it is just not in mankind. The world is doomed, but in Christ there is salvation. estory

liked this short poem about moonstones and magic, like the last lines the best

Beyond the ruins of man
There is moonstone,
Some other worldly magic
We don't understand.

Thanks for your excellent review. The magic I am refering to here is really the grace and salvation of Christ, maybe articulated in a different way. estory

Yes an interesting reflective poem here taking a look at our world in the present day and the mess we seem to be making, no matter how hard we try or switch allegiance, political or otherwise- the final stanza however, offers some hope.

It is criminal what we have done to this world, but I think, if we were to be wiped off the face of the earth, the earth would recover and there would be no sign we even existed after a few million years have passed. An excellent, insightful piece. I enjoyed reading it.

Thanks for the exellent review and your perspective on the poem. The world without man in it would be an empty world. The world was made for us. We have ruined it by turning from the plan of God. Only in returning to that plan can we find salvation. That is the point of the poem. estory

Your poem reads like an elegy for the world. I don't know if it's really much worse than it ever was, or is just as bad since the Fall. From what I've read of the Ancient Greeks and Romans and ancient times in Asia, people were just as cruel to one another. Word didn't spread around the world as fast so the anxiety is heightened because of knowing too much all at once. My favorite stanza was:
"Somewhere out there are impressions of angels,
The dead gathered like ears of wheat
Waiting for Christ
These thousands of years"

Thanks for the excellent review and your perspective on the piece. My point is that we haven't changed, really, from ancient times until now. Our failure is rooted in the corruption that turned us from God; it is only in returning to God that we can escape the ruin. I am glad you liked that last stanza. It was my favorite too; the image of the ears of wheat was something striking I found in the poetry of Boris Pasternak. estory

Oh, I'm impressed that you read Pasternak's poetry ! I only had to read him as part of being a Russian language major.
I agree with you that humankind has been affected by the Fall. Somehow I feel we're slightly better after the Church age but less now

My favorite poem of his, that was such an influence on me, was Holy Week. Doktor Zhivago was one of my favorite novels. estory

I'm glad you read him. My favorite Russian poets are lesser known in English - Osip Mandel'shtam is one. Marina Tsetaeva.
Thank you for reminding me of Pasternak. I have his book My Sister Life. You can read it in English here.

I'll have to check it out. Mandelshtam I have heard of. Back in the college days. But I also know Pushkin. estory

Yes, I liked Pushkin but he and Lermontov were overrated in my humble opinion. 😂
Eugene Onegin was quite the feat to do a novel in verse. I have the first stanza memorized.

It's always welcome to have your notes complement your verse to get the full package. We are definitely living in unstable times. Nothing has been learned from the past and all we see around us is male division and hostility. Little wonder that we reach out for meaning and guidance, captured in the feminine energy of moonstone. Thanks for sharing your excellent verse.Take care Debbie

Thanks for your excellent review but I think you misinterpreted the imagery of this poem. I certainly did not intend any male or female suggestions here. The image of the face on the moon is the face of Christ. The theme here is the failure of mankind, and the fact that true salvation can only come through the grace and compassion of Christ. estory

Hi
This is a good free verse poem about Jesus and what he does about the gravity. We need to act more like he did so we can fix the things we have ruined in the years of war and pollution we caused.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Enjoy the rest of your week.

The author's words were extremely thought provoking for me. I agree
with the author. The world is a mess! And as I pondered on the words
of this poem for me only Jesus Christ, if he intervenes can make a difference. The poem flows and connects. It also summarizes well
the state of affairs in our world. Great Poem!
Hope you are doing well. Have a great weekend!..Maria

I'm amazed at American politics, there is a sort of paranoia that is aimed at any form of socialism any form it takes, there is a terror of any form of leftism as being the devil incarnate, after all, what is democracy framed on, freedom of thought or principle? Or unless you think as I think or else. I think there is an internal civil war going on. I remember a Bob Dylan song, called 'God on our side' that pointed out what most nations seem to think of other nations, beautifully written, blessings Roy

Thanks for the excellent review and your wonderful compliments. What I was really trying to get at here is that the only solution comes through the grace and compassion of Christ. We have voted in capitalists, socialists, conservatives and liberals and they are all failures, because failure is a part of our nature now. estory

I agree we have made a mess of this world. But you don't have to get all religious on me now after all these times are upon us whether we believe in Christ or not. The moonstone of which you write is no more than an allusion made up of beliefs that are carved into stone.
By the way, your notes exceed your poem every time.

Thanks for your excellent review. Well, I guess you can believe whatever you want today, but this is what I believe. The world without a God is nothing but a meaningless struggle for survival. Salvation only comes through the grace and compassion of Christ. estory

This is your first post where you write about salvation. I prefer the intellectual side of you.
That's why I became your fan.
Oh well. Next time I will pass on your posts.
