Wonderfully atmospheric post, Beth! You've skilfully complemented the picture with your cinquain, bringing the past into sharp, haunting focus with the present. Well done and good luck! Debbie

Good one, Beth! I have seen these old homes sitting, neglecting and have asked myself I wonder what stories were left behind, what memories forgotten amidst the cobwebs and empty rooms. Perfect!

Thank you Carol. If houses could only talk. I'm sure they would all have a lot to say. Thanks for the review and comments.

I like how you told a story with your cinquain poem. I could sense that feeling of returning to a childhood home which is now empty and silent but the memories remain like "silent specters". Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you Helen. I could go back to the land but my actual home is only in my memory. The highway took the one we built back.

This is a somewhat spooky looking house but I'm sure it was a great place to grow up and carried many happy memories for some family. The presentation was very good and the premise is perfect. Nothing is ever the same when you go back. Someone has said you can never go back home. It's always a mixed bag when we do. The joy of reliving some memories and once again facing that specific space is wonderful. The sadness of realizing some of those that used to occupy that space have transitioned to another world.

Thank you for the review and comments om cinquain. Yes the house is spooky. It is from google images. My original home was destroyed by the tornado and the one built back was takent by the highway. I can't really return to my childhood home except in memory.

The ghosts of the past haunt those abandoned homes that were once filled with merriment, time passes and the past is often forgotten. A fine post for the contest Beth, love Dolly x x x

This was a bittersweet cinquain. I remember holding back tears the final time I looked upon my childhood home. I'm glad you are writing out interesting tales of your childhood. Thank you for posting.

This a great entry for the Cinquain poetry contest.
The imagery captures the message of the poem beautifully. So much said in so little words. I like how you've put it that memories hover like silent spector lost, such beautiful words...well done

A well-chosen image to illustrate this Cinquain. As I read your poem aloud, I could easily visualize those empty rooms. I especially like your comparison of memories to hovering silent specters. Rod
