A very interesting piece with your reflections on the "religious wars", and it is such a shame that people cannot respect and tolerate each other's beliefs. And that intolerance does make children nervous and anxious, and sometimes fearful. One doesn't ever win a religious argument by words. The life which shows Christ will influence others for His kingdom.

Thank you for the review and the six stars. As children, our parents probably thought we were carefree but I worried more as a child than I do now.

Another wonderful story, and yes wars over religion are the worst and go against what is preached. The scriptures can be misread, because "spare the rod and spoil the child, "have nothing to do with beatings, the men guided the sheep when they strayed by keeping them in the group with the rod, they never hit the sheep.

Thank you Joan. Yes, the scripture was written long enough ago that some of the expression used then had different meaning from now. The rod was just telling us we needed to guide our children.

Thank you Marilyn. It is something most of us get exposed to at some time. I think people should be free to choose their own path and no one should interfere with what they decide to believe. It causes too much stress.

Thank you Teri. I'm sure our parents weren't aware that we were on pins and needles about things we kept to ourselves. We didn't quite know how to express what we were feeling or worded about. Thank you for trhe six stars.

I remember a preacher once said he didn't know why denominations argued and accused others of preaching false, he said, after all didn't we all believe in the most important tenet of the bible, and believed the apostles creed. I like your mother's version, if it's in the bible I believe it, I don't care what your denomination, it's between the believer and God, it's none of my business, I believe it's the bias that we humans have within us that causes any war. Beautifully written Beth, I think you believe as your mother believes, and so do I, but there are too few that do, well done, blessings Roy

Thank you Roy. We all want the truth as we see in in the Bible but it amazing so many get confused about what is true. I think the basics are enough to show us the way. Probably none of have all the facts straight.

In my family, it was either the Roman Catholics, or the "Protestants" which I began to think was the opposite of Catholicism. I was raised Catholic, then, when of age, attended a Baptist Church, as i felt it to be closer to my understanding of the Bible.

As ever, a lovely story full of interest and emotion from a child's perspective. I don't remember my parents arguing much at all but I'm still very sensitive to raised hostile voices. So I can appreciate how anxious you must have been as a child. Context never comes into it when we're young. It's just a natural survival response to a potentially dangerous situation. I'm so glad, however, that religion was never the complex, divisive subject it seems to have been in your household. This is another dimension to your childhood experience and an enjoyable read. Thank you Debbie. My folks did make be anxious with their morning breakfast routine which was always stressful, but it could have been worse. There was never physical violence. Just meaningless threats, but I was I to know they were just noise.

Very nice! Every once in a while, I read a story that FEELS like a real story. This is one of those stories. Reading along, I could hear you telling the story and it just felt so real and well told.
