Oh that's terrible! One cannot be sure and we can't judge based on clothing. We have that problem here with people judged by their skin color and certain style of clothing. Best wishes in the contest!

Terrible? Maybe. Now - was there indeed a crime? No, we can't judge by clothing colour or style. She may have died of natural causes! He/they may be quite innocent. The police may have been doing a welfare check! Who knows? Lol. Thanks so much for a great review. I'll leave you wondering ....

Lol. Thank you Dolly. Now - was a crime committed, or did she die of natural causes? Was there one man, or two? Was he or were they innocent or guilty? Were the police just doing a welfare check? I guess we'll never know.
Thanks so much for a super review!

Debbie,
I like the way you use black as an ominous symbol.
Your story, though tragic, reflects the dangerous times we are in.
Great entry, Wendy,
Cindy

Thank you, Cindy, for a super review. We assume she didn't die of natural causes, and that the man was guilty (or were there two men?) Were the police after him? Or maybe doing a welfare check? Lol. Guess we'll never know.

I guess the moral, who knows, but still walk softly into the darkness. An unusual entry for you Wendy, but a goodie, with a great theme, and the keynote ending these contests demand, well done, good luck, blessings Roy

It isn't really safe to open your door to anyone these days. I don't story is based on truth but older people who live alone are vulnerable. Like you say everyone wears black. I wouldn't want to take a chance in opening the door.

I might have put a "violence" warning on this story, but it's fine. You told this short story well, though it was disturbing. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Thank you Jessi. Great review. We assume there was violence - maybe she just died of natural causes, and it was all coincidence ... who knows? Lol.

You told this dark contest entry in only a few words and still had all the required elements of a story: characters, setting, problem and solution. This is a very good entry. Good luck with the contest.

What?!! Who are you, and what have you done with my friend Wendy?!!

What a turn this is for you!! I will be fascinated to learn the backstory!

You did well, though: lots of intrigue, lots of mystery, some foreshadowing, some red herrings. Very nice work! I hope it does well for you in the 75 Word Flash Fiction!! xxox

I have enjoyed the various reactions to this one.) Thanks again.

Lol. I am glad you got a surprise at the end. Now ... did I actually say this man committed a murder and the police were after him? Maybe she died of natural causes. Was it one man or two? Innocent or guilty? Were the police just doing a welfare check? Who knows? Lol. Thanks for enjoying this one.
