Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. It read as if it were non-fiction. Having raised four boys, I am not new to the world of sports. Only one of them competed in something other than team sports, wrestling. It was not a lot of fun to watch, but I did and supported him fully. The main sports for all of the boys were football and baseball. Basketball was thrown in for good measure. I can't believe your entry won't win. It's excellently written.

You did GREAT with this entry! You kept it intense and exciting and emotional, too. I could feel your regret having signed her up once the champion's son was going to be her competition. You're a braver parent than I for not having said, "NOOOOO!! STOP!!! We've not continuing, Referee, Sir."
And I LOVE that ending, because it sums it up perfectly: She was so happy with her silver, and the boy with gold couldn't enjoy his win.
Super well done!

Jeez, Bruce, you certainly had me do a double check to see if this was fiction or non-fiction. I felt the nerves the protagonist felt. You hit every emotion out there and the story drew me in. Really great story. Gretchen

Well done with this story of a young girl's jiu jitsu contest. You've ticked off all the requirements of the contest and told a great story with a moral to it. Good luck in the contest.

There is a moral in this tale and being satisfied with your own performance even if you do not win is often much more pleasing than winning where it can be a very lonely place. I enjoyed your quaint and poignant story Bruce, an enjoyable and unusually read, love Dolly x
