What a sad problem for the two young men. They awaken knowing their father has to disappear and fear it is something they need to do. Is this knowledge what makes the new day seem better?

They confessed to each other, I think that helped lighten things for them. Thank you so much for this excellent review. Gretchen

I bet it was his father that was peeping through Ms Lynn's window, and I bet it was him who broke the door down, but what else did he do?
Poor Dewey, he has every right to hate his father and wish him dead, so does Huck. Now to wait and see what the scumbag has done. This is a dark, but impelling story. Well done, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Yes, doing something about it is a problem. I have a feeling it was Huck's father who broke into Lynn's store. When Huck realizes it, he may do something about it.
Good story
I tell my momma exactly what Miss Lynn says. "She said she (says,)
"I dreamed you killed Daddy. I was watching you."
"It was dream, Dew. Just a dream. Your head got things mixed up." (space needed between the two dialogues)

Comment from Debbie D'Arcy
A wonderfully strong chapter as I feel myself endorsing Dewey's plan and wishing Huck would too. Their father is a monster but so credible and well-portrayed. Everyone is on tenterhooks when he's around and that creak of a floorboard even gets me nervous. As ever, Gretchen, excellent dialogue, pace and length of chapter, conveying the intensity of this household scene. One small edit:
He's quiet for a (for a) little bit - duplication.
Take care Debbie
