Definitely a different time when soft whispers spoke volumes more than the empty shouting we hear today. Subtlety is no longer in fashion. But vulgarity is not necessarily attractive either. I opt for the firmer. Thank you for sharing sweet memories.

Darn you! I couldn't read your poem without singing it to the tune of "Speak Softly, Love."
It's funny that, in your poem, you have to speak softly so as not to disturb the parents. In my home, it's speak softly so as not to disturb the child (especially now that she's not a child anymore).
Your poem is cute and funny, and probably way more relatable than most parents would like when thinking about their children and what they're doing when we're not looking (or listening).
Now, of course, I can't get that blasted song out of my mind!!!

I like how you revert to the time period slang with "hot diggity" and I liked "don't sound like broadcast static" as the narrator wants to have that extra time with his lovely date!

Love the way you've captured the essence of the fifties in this sweet and charming free verse! The rather dated words of 'parlor' 'hot diggity' etc infuse character and appeal and all beautiful packaged with your visual and video. You've teleported us back to the 50s alright! Well done, Jim! Debbie

Great poem, my friend, however, the video contradicted the sedate 50s. We had Buddy Holly, That'll Be the Day (1957); Chubby Checker, The Twist (1960). I won a twist contest that year); Elvis, Heartbreak Hotel (1957); Roy Orbison, Ooby Dooby (1956); and Johnny O'Keefe above as living proof. Loved this blast from the past.
A whole lot of shaking and shouting goin' on.

Even the wild 60's take a back seat to all the happenings of today. But, in the future, the teens of today will no doubt think their times were more tame than those younger than them...and so on...doesn't it make one wonder, "just how bad will things be 100 years from now?"
Your poem mage me think of a quieter time in our history. Bring back saddle shoes, please! lol
