Oh no! What a problem for you! I hope the starlings are not the vengeful type like the crows. If crows see you carrying a dead one of their own, they will never let you live it down - for generations!
I can't imagine how they drowned. Were they so thirsty, they just drank and fell in?
Hope you get someone to take some of the many chores that have fallen on your shoulders.

Sweet story about the dead starling birds. I can picture you digging the grave, the rain, and the containers full of water. Good word imagery.
Well done

Thank you Roy for your kind words and review.
Since I used to feed the cats, they showed little interest in going after birds.
I only have one now who shows up with knife and fork in paws.
Thank you again.
Blessings

This is a very well written story about all you had to go through with the little starlings drowning and you having to bury them. I love all the little birds. I had a cat at one time that come walking up in our backyard with a baby bird in it's mouth. I caught our cat and took that baby bird out of its mouth and took it in the house. Our cat kept chasing me to get that bird. We put the little bird in a box and gave it water with a dropper . Later when we knew the cat wasn't around my husband but the baby bird close to where its mother was and the mother bird took it again. I was so happy. love and blessings, Teri

Good story Teri. I used to feed the feral cats, so none of them bothered to bother the birds.
I appreciate your review.
Thank you

Oh dear! Well, truth be told, I have no love lost for birds in general and starlings in particular. I'm impressed that you went to the length you did for them in death. You are more woman than I will ever be.
Very entertaining post. Thank you for the fun read, Mary. xo

I'm surprise they would go into a barrel. They must have thought it was bird bath and they didn't have enough space to take off again. Lets hope they aren't plotting revenge.

Well told! So much for the idea that a bird bath would make starlings happy. Who knew that it has to be shallow? Seems like they could catch flight, but obviously not. I'd watch out for the coming revenge!

Ph my, Mary, I certainly know what it's like to try and do the things that my husband once did...I'm like a fish out of water. Not to mention I am just too old for some of it. I would be devastated to have found the dead birds, as I know you must have felt that way too. You did your best to give them a decent burial and hopefully none of the birds have heard of Alfred Hitchcock. Well done!

Thank you Carol from another fish. I heard a stationary bike is good for his condition. So I got him one, the only problem is I have to assemble it . I could not assemble a weedwacker so I am hoping this goes smoothly.
Thank you for your kind words.

Good luck with the assembly. Have a great day!

LOL. They probably have long memories and won't forget, but I will try to influence the gods to speak to them and leave you alone. :) I have one question: What were you washing that required the wastebasket on the porch and the trash barrel in the yard? I guess I missed the lawnmower escapade. However, it was a good story, and I did enjoy it. Thanks for sharing it. Stay well.

I wanted to clean the inside of each . The kitchen is near the porch and it would be easier to bring it in. The barrel I would have to drag to the other side of the yard. Thank you for the review. I am glad you enjoyed the story.

I'm not sure what Alfred Hitchcock might make of the bird presence in your yard now. Probably best not to go that route. lol Thanks for sharing your story.
