There's a rant and a half! I agree with your aversion to snakes. Mind you, I come from an island where you don't have to ask yourself if any given snake is venomous. You know it is. The only question is HOW venomous. I've never been chased by one but I'm scared of them all right.
You managed to be funny about the situation. Clearly, you're less chicken-hearted than I am!

Thank you. I'm glad we have few venomous snakes here in Michigan. Blue racers are not poisonous but have a short fuse and will bite.

You made snakes rather fun in this post. We didn't see any snakes around our home growing up, but I still had nightmares about them being under my bed! Ha ha ha, a fine story here told in such a natural way, a very entertaining piece, love Dolly x

I am deathly afraid of them also, I can't believe one chased you, don't they crawl sideways? there is a stray cat I feed, it brings me dead birds at times, I'm always grateful it isn't a snake.

Thank you, and thanks for the six stars. Blue racers don't crawl sideways, but I think some snakes do.

I couldn't help but laugh as I read this contest entry. Unfortunately, or fortunately I am a scared of snakes as you are. I enjoyed reading. Thank you for sharing this with us. Good luck with the contest.

Thank you. I found Mike's fake bravado amusing at the time. I think he was just as afraid of the snake as I was but wouldn't admit it.

This brings lots of images and memories to mind! I've never seen or heard of snakes chasing people. Is that true? In my experience, they're usually just trying to avoid getting stepped on.
Your grammar is perfect, so I'm surprised you had to work on it.
My only suggestion would be to edit a bit and try to avoid repetition.
Good work!

Thank you. Yes, it's true, at least for blue racers. I don't think they really want to harm you, just you chase away. However, they will bite if their young are threatened or if one irritates them enough. They aren't poisonous, but their bite is painful.

New information for me! It changes everything to think of snakes that will pursue a person...

I don't think you could have expanded much more on this phobia. You've definitely got your message over, firstly by posting a visual of a quite terrifying snake, and then by recounting all your experiences, mostly of being targeted so brazenly! I actually have to admit, you had me laughing at some of your stories albeit not wanting to have been in your position. Is that mean? Anyway, It was a great read and a very worthy contender! Good luck! Debbie

Thank you. I'm thoroughly convinced that snakes target me. Lol Maybe they sense my fear and dislike and consider me an easy target.

One of my most memorable memories from my childhood comes from when I was a toddler living in rural Arkansas. I was playing in our front yard while my mother and father were doing some gardening. My mother noticed a blue racer heading in my direction, she yelled out a warning to my father who just happened to have a garden hoe in his hands. My father spun around and proceeded to decimate this snake in short order. I had no prior memory nor any memory since then of seeing him act so heroically. Nonetheless, I was duly impressed.

There is a very strong gallows humor in this story, tongue in cheek humor, and cautionary tale humor. You've got them all covered here.
A couple of years ago my Maine Coon wanted to drag them in. There were two beautiful lavender ones that were so tiny, the size of a piece of yarn. I relocated them. And one time outside I came upon one right on the other side of a berry bush. And I came into research them and found racers, this is a New England racer but it's no different. Racers can be between 5 and 7 ft long. This one I saw was five feet for sure, I'd never seen a snake that long before what an experience but when I see them now. If they're anywhere near the house I say "don't let him see you" That kind of is a nice diversion for me I no longer get startled by them except I'm worried about them now. A snake means change is a'comin'. You probably wouldn't want to read one of my chapters in my book Traffic One because the boys got into a bag of snakes. That wasn't any different than a friend and I when we were 10 years old we got we got opened up a bag of snakes also.

Thank you. Eww, I can't imagine opening a bag of snakes. One is too many for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this rant even though I'm sorry about how snakes tormented you. I understand.

My husband and I had a house where we saw an occasional snake on the grounds. My husband bought snake repellant. When we sold the house, the buyer, after seeing the box of repellant asked, "How could you use that stuff. You could have hurt a snake."

I'm with you. I do not like snakes. Your rant is well written. Best wishes in the contest.

that damned shake was terrified (snake);

I loved your rant! And your snake stories are so much fun and well told. Since you mentioned Adam and Eve, your aversion to snakes fits the prophecy "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel" (Genesis 3:15, KJV). But you had some chase scenes that were worthy of Hollywood! I didn't know they could vengefully go after you! Best wishes in the contest!

While I don't like or dislike snakes, I wouldn't keep them for pets. But I hear that in places where humans and snakes live in peace together, the snakes don't bother the humans.

Mike puffed his cheat out. (chest?)
