Oh dear, the cat is out of the bag now and Mrs Collete has enough venom in her to cause some trouble for poor Artie. I don't know what a (hope box) is Gretchen? Is it like saying (a bottom drawer), somewhere to collect items for becoming a future bride?
Another fine chapter and it is always a pleasure to read your work.
One small edit:
(He) never looks away

Thank you so much Dolly. Yes a hope chest is a large trunk made out of wood. My mother had one and my sister had one. It was a thing of the past by the time I reached the normal age to start one. Thank you for the edit as well. Gretchen

Strong work here and character development. This grabbed my attention and held it all the way through from start to finish. I wish you all the best going forward

This is the first I have read of this story. It is an exciting and well-executed story. The end of the chapter guarantees the reader will want to find out what is next. A larger font would be easier for us older folks to read.

I will work on the font size. Lol. That suggestion has been made before. Thank you for this. Gretchen

It's nice to read a story from a child's perspective. Children are so innocent and they think of things adults take for granted. I think you portrayed it well. Good job

Uh-oh. Now what? Artie had better make like a tree and leave, skedaddle for the boonies.
His never looks away. - maybe 'He never looks away.'?
Best wishes.
