This is a poignant as it can be! It reminds me of the end of Braveheart: "Every man dies, not every man really lives." What a life you have had, my friend, and a man of honor yourself. Thank you for your service and for sharing your remembrance of Bobby Jones. I dearly hope you and yours receive the closure your seeking. As is our faith, we trust he's with the Lord in safe keeping and has always been.
Sending you all my best and a virtual ******six stars today.

Thank you, Sally. What a prophetic quote! Bobby gave his life before he had the chance to start living it. That is truly the tragedy of this story. You summed it up well. Unknown to him, Bobby had a plane ticket to heaven on that fateful day and enjoys eternity with our Lord. Praise HIm and blessings to you!

Hello John,
thanks for remembering your friend and honoring him and so many others who gave their lives for those of us who enjoy freedom because of their sacrifice. Memorial Day has lost it's meaning for so many, but we need to recall the reason for it. The least we can do is say a prayer for their families, and those who are serving now, that God protect them and bring them safely home. Good luck in the contest.
Blessings,
Tom

Thanks, Tom. Like you said, Memorial Day has lost its meaning, and I fear for the very soul of this country. When we forget those who died for our freedom, I'm not sure we deserve that freedom any longer. It saddens me to make that statement, but it seems to be the reality of today. I appreciate the wisdom of your comments.

Thank you for sharing about your friend and our nation's hero, Bobby Jones. It hurts to think that he could have helped so many people as a doctor but instead was killed in that plane crash. How interesting that his dog tag was found but no body. Great post for Memorial Day.

Thanks, Helen. You touched on the most tragic and sad part of Bobby's story. The intervening years have done nothing to lessen the pain and sadness, particularly for Bobby's family. Thank you for your kind comments. John

This true story is certainly worthy of aq win, but, more importantly, your words stem from your heart. I am truly grateful to people like Bobby who gave their lives while I was in my college years and those who continue to give their lives and unselfish service to this country.

Thank you, Jim. I'm not sure our country understands or appreciates the meaning of Memorial Day any longer. That might be the saddest story of all. I appreciate your review.

Some of my earliest memories are of our town's Memorial Day parades. There were still a few Civil War vets alive when I was a kid.
