This is a touching and well delivered story of painful loss and grief and you handled it perfectly with your well chosen words Gretchen. I have no idea why Mrs Collete would hide such news from Lester, it is a terrible thing to do and she is not a nice person. Another fine chapter Gretchen, love Dolly x

No, his aunt is definitely not a nice person. Thank you for this nice review. Gretchen

Oh poor Lester. Not only the grief of losing his father but the double whammy of her keeping the news from him. I wonder how long she would have kept the secret from him?!!! Just as well he has Heddy and her family to care for and support him.

Thank you so much, Wendy. I believe she would have waited to tell him at the worst possible moment. I appreciate this. Gretchen

I enjoyed reading this, although I haven't read from the start. You use excellent sensory descriptions coupled with authentic dialogue. I will go back to read from the beginning if I'm understanding it well. Thank you for sharing this.
Best wishes,
Alex

Nice plot point. Nicely written.
Your dialogue and relationship action was very natural, believable.
Heddy, while given to adult thinking, still holds tightly to her youth.
Best wishes.
