That's so sad. I like how you juxtapose the advanced technological world of exploring the moon and the traditional names and customs of the couple. I also like your traditional use of the moon as the witness to the love. Best wishes in the contest!

"while preparing to explore the moon" Wow, that is high-tech culture.
"Somewhere between earth and the moon, the rocket exploded." Oh my, quite sad.

I felt that! I loved that you explained what the garments were while honoring the culture by using traditional language to describe them. That ending tho, heartfelt, the bittersweet memories of love and loss.

I wanted to keep the story as short as possible but still in the framework of the Mandarin culture.

This is an interesting take on modern life. It reminds me of what we now see in the Western World, where more and more people live in tribes and it is no longer acceptable to ask if a couple are married... I still think old-fashioned ways were best. kay
