Don't you just love a case of self absorption, so carried away by the magnificence of one's own culinary delight that one wonders why they are preoccupied with someone who had just died horribly, heh heh, beautifully written, blessings Roy

Your descriptions were wonderful. I could smell and taste the food. Great job of writing. This story shows the problem with our society, they are more worried about winning than a human life.

Thanks, Barbara.

This piece was a pleasure to read, and a pleasure to think about afterward. The twist was logical, believable, and a horrifying commentary on a value system run amok. Nice work!

Well, you've for sure made me hungry. A culinary dance proves for a interesting competition than a war. And your description of the taste comparisons says it all. Great job! Thanks for sharing.

Bruce, you've left my stomach roaring with your description of the "romance between the ocean and the forest." You've highlighted cooking in your writing before; are you a great cook who creates all these wonderful dishes at home?
But at least you finished it on time!
You are a very clever fellow, and I enjoyed the culinary contest as well as your tasty twist at the end. A lamp in place of his head? Ouch!
xo

I was inspired by an episode of MasterChef where one competitor used the exact phrase that opens this short story. It got me thinking, one thing led to another, and I drafted this piece. Inspiration really does come from the strangest places!
You make a valid point, Pam?I do enjoy incorporating cooking into my stories. However, I won't discuss my culinary talents. I don't want to spoil my good mood, haha! Thank you dearly for your review.

I did wonder if you'd been responsible for Stagnicky's demise or is that taking things too far? Clearly you're obsessed with winning and that trumps any concern over his bloodied body (I like the "lamp in place of his head" very objective and apt description given the speaker's cool response). 2nd para is my favourite for that mouth-watering description infused with a creative fusion of ocean and forest.
Excellently done. Take care Debbie

First, I loved the delectable description of the dish being prepared... mouth watering (many of my posts center around home cooking).
Next, I found this comical, though on the dark side with the competing chef totally absorbed in his dish, then annoyed the judges won't be tasting it...
Damn that Stagnicky...

This story, Stagnicky, You Fool, is in its totality, a comedy about being absorbed in one's artwork. It builds to the point that a human death, in one's immediate vicinity, is hated for its detraction from the rendered masterpiece of culinary art. Funny.

Single-minded devotion to the task. It is always good when the bad guy gets his comeuppance but not at your expense. I enjoyed this but to be honest I was left feeling down. I wanted Alex to win, although he might have sociopathic tendencies. Good writing; not the outcome I craved so no 6 this time but so close.

Haha, all I could think of was one of my favourite Rolling Stones song 'You Can't Always Get What You Want'! Thanks for reading and leaving the review, Mark.

This was a very dark comedy. His inner monolog was priceless. He was self assured for sure, but the casual ease of seeing the violent end to someone and returning to plate his food was priceless. The last line did it for me. I hope this gets nominated fir story of the month. You've got my vote. Gretchen
