Hello Gretchen,
this was outstanding gal. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. I can imagine that Heddy's mom would be on edge waiting, especially after so long of a time worrying about Willis. The dialogue between Heddy and her mom over who's winning at checkers was priceless. Well done.
Have a blessed evening.

Another brilliant and moving chapter, Gretchen.
Sadly, I am out of six stars, but this chapter is so deserving.
I so loved the interplay between Daddy and "Ladybug." A special father/daughter bond, and I love how Heddy's daddy is so concerned about Momma as she waits for Willis to arrive home.
Ending is wonderful: keep the readers guessing.
So very much enjoyed!
Fondly,
diane

What a heart-warming chapter, well structured and building the tension with Heddy being the adult to her mother. The descriptions of these relationships are always a joy to read, Gretchen, and this one was particularly special. Take care, Debbie

I can that would be very exciting if a mother has seen her son in two years. You would wonder if the war might have changed. He will like feel awkward being back home. If he as seen serious combat, it will take adjusting for everyone. I look forward to reading about his homecoming.

You cleverly leave Willis's return to the next eoiside, that certainly guarantees a captive and faithful audience, what a great picture of family life you paint for those grim days of conflict, the faithful son returning home to his mum, dad and sister, loving parents make such a difference to a child. Beautifully written Gretchen, blessings Roy

Thank you so much. I think family was more important to some, just like present times. Gretchen

Oh, what a horrid place to stop! I do hope Willis won't be different. Heddy and her mother need the man that left his home to return. That isn't always possible. I can't wait to read on. Another excellent chapter, my friend. Warmest hugs, my friend. Sandra xxx

Willis returns! Yay!
Well written.
Momma sounds a bit fragile.
Aunt Lana was mean as a snake - I like it.
Checkers can be surprisingly skillfully mastered. And accomplished player just about can't be beaten.
Best wishes.
