Thank you for sharing this very wise contest entry with us. Yes, grief can overcome us. I would have to say, please understand I am NOT a poet, I write prose, but I would say you've nailed this contest. Just in case, good luck.
PS I just enjoy reading poety.

Thanks so much for your lovely comments. It's encouraging :)

The language in this poem is both evocative and restrained, allowing the reader to feel the weight of grief without becoming overwhelmed. The imagery is powerful, with each line carefully crafted to evoke a response. You skillfully provide hope, offering moments of light at the end of the darkness.

I have only one word for this. Exquisite. I wish I had six stars for this, such a beautifully conceived poem expressing the journey through grief to healing. Best of luck in the contest.

I don't usually critique poetry because I am a short-story writer and usually review them. But something made me pick your poem. I'm glad I did. I enjoyed the way the poem flowed. It had a good rhythm to it. Although the subject matter is sad throughout, it's still hopeful. These two lines were my favorite:
the rising of a golden sun
the scarlet beauty when it's done
What a great poem to introduce me to reviewing poetry. Good luck in the contest.

Hi Sandollar,
Thank you so much. I feel honoured!

I knew this Emotions contest was going to generate some good stuff.
I was going to enter, but could not get a solid answer on if 'sorry' was an emotion. Two DQ's already this month chased me away.
So, this was enjoyable. I expect to see you in the podium.

What a heartfelt and vulnerable piece of work. Your poem flows so elegantly and the visuals I saw flash thru my mind as I read it only enhanced the emotion felt. I have lost three out of four grandparents within the last three years, so this really spoke to me on a personal level.
Very well done and thank you for sharing.

This is a beautiful poem for the emotions challenge Shirley. You're right it does get easier when we realise they are with us always in our heart, and thoughts and in the beauty that surrounds us. A lovely read, and good luck in the contest.

I enjoyed reading your touching poem. It's true ,after we come out of the grief over the loss of someone we realize they are with us in many ways.
we will see them again.
Lovely rhyming and beautiful images throughout.

This poem touches my heart for it's so hard to stop grieving for a loved one's loss and start finding their presence everywhere in the world around us. I've had to do so too many times and it doesn't get easier, but it does come. Your title is perfect, the poem is descriptive and flows easily with the rhythm, the accompanying picture is a beautiful complement. Thank you for sharing it. Best wishes!
