Those things are both true, both the.Germans and the Japanese were much hated, a teaching colleague of my wife was a German prisoner/worker during the war and spent time with the family, but they became good friends, not everyone was irrational, beautiful written Gretchen, blessings Roy

There were a lot of Germans who were in board with Hitler in the beginning. He made them feel pride for their country. But as he started to control them more, many understood the madness. Fear kept them quiet. Thank you for this. Gretchen

I agree with you, the Versailles treaty robbed Germans of self respect

Heddy has said something she shouldn't and now has to suffer for it. Cleaning windows on a hot day is a bit of suffering also. Her imagination is making her feel doubly guilty. Well written and you've done a good job of making the reader as anxious about what Lester might say as Heddy is.

Thank you, Carol. I appreciate your feedback. Guilt can make you imagine all sorts of things. Gretchen

I hope you had a lovely time at the beach. It was cold enough to spit snow here.

Thank you for writing this. It absolutely should be published. I applaud your courage to write about a hard reality. Seriously. I envisioned every written word and you did an amazing job at description. You should be very proud! P.S.- if interested read my poem Skin to Skin. Perhaps you are aiming for the same realization. Just a thought.

A very good chapter. I'm not sure I would call hanging that man, a deed driven by fear. He was one and they were many. But perhaps Nonni has her reasons for bending the truth. As long as the point was made.
I hope all that cleaning isn't for nothing.

I believe Nonni understood that the man was a convenient scapegoat. Thank you for the wonderful review. And, cleaning windows when you're oceanfront is like sweeping the desert. Lol. I used to clean cottages here on the Outer Banks. Thanks for the stars. Gretchen

Please tell me Artie is swinging with his hands on the branch (playing). Or that Heddy is hallucinating. I would have to 'unfriend' Lester if he got Artie hung.
Best wishes.

It's Heddy's imagination getting the best of her. No one is really hanging. Heddy is just overthinking things now. I think Lester will keep his promise. Thank you for this nice review. Gretchen

Nice subterfuge. That was a good way to end the chapter.
