I enjoyed reading your poem. It was very interesting. I have never heard of this river. This is a well written poem. The picture goes nicely with your words. Great job

Brenda,
Thanks so much for your review. Yes, there are some eleven lost rivers in London. There are also many around the world. Civilization has not been kind to them.
Take care and have a wonderful day.
Cheers

I am surprised how sweet and solemnly sad my emotions were reading this poem.
The descriptive language used was effective in creating detailed imagery and meaning.

Wow,
Christina thanks so much for the Six Star review. Glad you enjoyed it so much. My grandfather was blessed to have survived the horror of the War and his role in it. Take care and have a wonderful day.

I am surprised how sad I was after finishing this poem. I never thought of a river just disappearing. I really like how you describe its route in ages past as it wound its way to the Thames. Rod

Rod,
Thanks for your kind review. Yes, it is sad. There are some attempts to resurrect some of the rivers. We will see. Take care and have a great day.

Who can tell the tale of ancient streams, the things they have observed, and endured. Small rivers and lakes are oft underserved or regarded, thus treated to several unmentionable abuses. Water is such an integral need to man's existence that it deserves our respect, no matter its size or location.

I'm not familiar with The lost rivers of London, but this is a heartfelt piece, and I recognize the passion in your words and notes. Perhaps the answer will come. It does seem a sad ending.
Best, JohnC

John,
Thanks for the review. There is plenty of info on the internet. So sad to see once former rivers now at the bottom of the scale so to speak.
There is quite a movement worldwide to save or at least clean up rivers.
Take care and have a wonderful day.

Thanks Dolly. It is sad how many rivers have now been slowed or used to push sewerage through the system. However, there appears to be some interest to reverse the pattern. Take care and have a wonderful day.

powerful and moving poem to the lost rivers of London. How many are there? are any of them free flowing? Has there been any attempt to uncover the lost rivers in London? That is a big thing right now worldwide - Seoul has uncovered quite a few old streams to great impact. So has the Bay Area and Los Angeles is restoring the Lost Los Angeles river.

Jake,
Thanks for the review. Glad you liked it. Yes, there have been some renewed attempts to bring some of the lost rivers back. As you say, across the world there has been a strong movement to clean up some of the "lost" rivers. Hopefully, more money will be allocated to the recovery of many of the lost rivers. Take care and have a wonderful day.

Neat topic with an original picture. I gave this four stars because of several small areas I have pointed out for improvement, but if you clean it up, message me back and I will upgrade.
some grammar things:
Through meadow land <= meadowland
water mill <= watermill
(both can be written with two words, but they look cleaner as compound words)
What caused it's disappearance? <= its
Un-noticed <= unnoticed
The meter could use some work. Examples:
It started life on a hill <= How you edit this depends on the meter you want. Right now it is unclear. If in triplets, try "it started its life on a hill", to accent START/LIFE/HILL. If in 4, change on to "upon" to get START/LIFE/ON/HILL. The way it is now, it is mixed meter (STARTed as an duplet, LIFE on an HILL in triplets) but the casual reader will not likely intuit that from the get-go, and read it awkwardly.
I think your meter will work better in 4, as that is how most of your text is set up currently.
Trickling, tumbling ever downward <= switch to "down" to avoid making it a triplet, if you're doing your meter in 4
To the lowlands far below <= omit "the"
Etc.
Thanks for the read! Best regards,

I have never heard of these lost rivers, but the sewerage requirements of extreme civilisations is the cause of much disease and health carnage, and perhaps these lost water sources. Beautifully written Barry, blessings Roy

Your poem is alluring in the tale it tells. I enjoyed each stanza and the easy flow from beginning to end. How many wonders on this earth slip away without fanfare or thought? I'd never heard of the Effra, but I'm off to Google it!
