Another excellent chapter full of captivating dialogue which is such a pleasure to read. The characters are skilfully portrayed and this, in turn, brings scenes and activities to colourful life. The friendship between Lester and Heddy is a delight to read. Lester is far from stupid and has an instinctive appreciation of the world around him, seemingly more astute, at times, than Heddy. And as for Artie, the rather ghostly, large and enigmatic character - we've yet to learn more. Well done, Gretchen! A great read! Debbie

Now Lester has planted the seed in Heddy's mind. Why hasn't he gone to war with all the other men, he looks strong and healthy. I wonder if she will ask him. You've got to feel sorry for Lester, if it wasn't for Heddy and her mother, he'd be stuck with his miserable aunt for the whole of the war. Another excellent chapter, Gretchen. Well done. Thank you, Sandra. I love Lester. He and Heddy see things very differently. The war is a rumor to her, with the exception of her brother. He has his dad in the pacific and his mother working full time at a factory. Thank you again. Gretchen

I love this book, you made Heddy and Lester sound very real and likable. The plot is good too. It flows nicely and it's easy to follow. I hate stories that I have to read several times before I get it. Well done!

This post brings more mystery to Artie even though he was already mysterious. I wonder if Lester will share Artie with Heddy's parents. Hmm, it's getting more interesting. I do like this story.

A funny little tale, you are very much in the heads of your characters Gretchen, your main protagonist at least, they are all thinkers, and certainly Lester is displaying those tendencies, and Heddy is coming around to being fonder of Lester, well done, blessings Roy
