Oh! DEbi ,This story affected me deeply .Teenage is the time when we have a blast and no care at all(except the exams) I can't believe depression overtaking a teenager to such an extent as to think of ending their lives... may be its all the time Life in Modern times are difficult even for the young ones..
i have read tat i Japan students end their lives because they can't cope with the pressure of studies..

Hi Santha, thanks so very much! You are so sweet and I appreciate your compassionate comments. They all mean the world to me.

I am with you that it's hard to believe but it is out of control. I wonder if lack of God in the home isn't part of it. Or how about lack of parenting too. Yet, each case is different and we never know what someone is going through.

So If this helps one person, I would be so grateful. Thanks again, my dear friend. Love, Debi

This raises the readers alertness: "How dare he go to someone else's place and make a scene. His counseling obviously was not working as well as mother said it was." So John's therapy was working, so well. he was able to use it in Jeremy. Therapy is lifesaving. This was a good topic to address.

Hi Debi, your story is well told. I could feel the scary tension within. Good dramatic writing. Of special note:

It was so quiet that you could hear a leaf drop from a tree. I could hear John's soft voice telling him that was how he felt just a few months ago; that he had contemplated doing the same thing.

(My heart was in my stomach too.)

Perfect photo choice. Thank you for your author's notes. What TV program(s) did you watch? I would like to watch them too. Let me know.

A timely story in our everchanging world, and the changes are not good. Xo. M

Hey, thanks sis! You are awesome, and I appreciate your compassionate comments and of special note. Thanks for the six stars and the wonderful support you have always been.

Now, where is your next diet story? I need to get some more tips of dieting. I am starting to cheat too often as we have been going out to eat. It is the game changer completely. Help! LOL

Thanks again, for the wonderful review, my sweet friend and SOTU!!!

Actually it was from our local news. One of those morning shows that continues after the news. I was so upset I only watched two nights of it and couldn't get it out of my mind. I changed that to say it was the news program yesterday. It was like a four day deal on it tho. Terribly depressing. Told about a six year old who did it. SIX!!! Yes, doesn't that just make you ill?
reply by LateBloomer on 02-Mar-2024
Very Ill. Which morning show. I have "On Demand" here. I can watch past shows.

I would have to look back, Hon. it was quite a while ago, but if you want to check it out it was from either Fox 9 morning show or KSTP 5. Can't remember. I will ask Glen if he does. I hate watching this stuff with him because he starts judging. Yeah, they need to be out in the country on a farm and learn about real work instead of being on those damn phones. Yada, yada yada. LOL

This is an excellent story, Debi. I'm glad you said it was fictional, as I was worrying about your bother. The teenage years are difficult for many kids, and so many of them could use a listening ear and a hug. Thanks for sharing this important, but difficult, topic. Hugs! Carol

Hi Carol, thanks so very much! You are so sweet and I appreciate your compassionate comments. And thank you for the honor of your six stars too. They all mean the world to me.

Before I let you go, I must know how you and your husband are doing after his fall? I have been praying for you both daily, as I know it is so hard on the spouse too.

Thanks again, my dear friend. Love, Debi

Hi. Mitch is in a rehab center and will likely be there for another 3 weeks. Thanks for asking and thanks so much for your prayers. I've been driving there almost every day and I'm exhausted. I'm getting extra rest, but it's not enough. He's making good progress.
reply by the author on 04-Mar-2024
But it is best for you both, as much as it is hard to run everyday, my sweet friend. I once was in a rehab center for three months and I did not want to be there, but the therapy helped me to walk again after three months of no weight baring after they had to put an artificial ankle in me. Please know my prayers won't stop for either of you and I know you will be so much better off when he comes home. Sorry if I sound like a know it all. I don't mean to, but it was that kind of encouragement that got me thru it.
Much love to you and please take care of you during this. Debi

I'm always glad to hear from you because you've been through all of this. Thank you so much.

Mitch is basically learning to walk and balance all over again. He's lost 20 pounds. Thankfully the food is great at rehab, so he's eating better. He's making progress. He can get himself from the bed to a wheelchair to the bathroom and back. A week or so ago he could hardly sit up by himself. Thanks so much for praying for us.

Sad commentary but on a very important topic and very well written. The fact that you used another young person's voice gives it strength and added credibility.

It's remarkable how, sometimes, we're so locked into one aspect of a family member's personality that we fail to see the whole. In John's case, his own feelings of depression seem to have given him great insight and empathy into those of others. And he managed a very precarious situation with commendable calm and mature understanding. Suicide especially among young men is a serious issue in the UK as well and I think anything that highlights this problem and keeps the conversation alive is inevitably a good and worthwhile thing. Thanks for sharing, Debi. Take care Debbie

I am glad that this story is fictional. This is a touching story. Great details throughout. John's character was viewed one way in the story's beginning but changed at the end. It is true that we need to value and listen to our children. Nice job.

Debi, this story gave me chills. It may have been fiction, but it felt biographical. It was beautiful as you went through and described what a desperate person might feel like, and how family members often overlook the suffering of one of their own. This one had a happy ending, but you know there as so many who do not.

Thank you so much for writing this, and I do hope it brings realization to adults of the need to look deeper into a child's reality.

Love and hugs,
Rhonda

Hello Derek and welcome back to FanStory. I am thrilled that you think I am a good writer and that you loved my story, but if that is the case then I know you didn't mean to give me a four star rating. If that is the case, could you please change it.

Derek, I just went to read and review and to fan you, and I see you have muted me. I don't understand. My reply to you was very kind and respectful. And thank you for changing the rating.
