Love these lines:"Good writers are born, great writers have to work for it, and that's what we are here to help you do." Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings.

I am from Houston, Texas myself. You have good advice here. I wrote a chapter on my mistakes and how to avoid them. You have glorious hair. I am jealous. I am glad you found this site. I know it improved my life a lot. Karen

Hi, Karen. I'm from Houston as well, actually, more Baytown. I still have a lot of family in the area. There are several of us in the Dallas area now. We even had a meet up not too long ago.
Thank you for the comments on my hair. It was a hard decision to go silver, but I haven't regretted it for one moment. Just like this site, it grows on you.
Good to meet you,
Rhonda

I am planning to move to Plano to be near my sisters. Plano is between Tyler and Dallas. Terry Broxton is Texan as is Brett Matthew West. Who else?
For some reason I had thought you were from California. :-)
-
We lived in California briefly when I was a small child, Georgia and Indiana for a bit,
But I?m a Texan!
Annmum lives here as does Barbara Wilkey and Sarah Robin. I didn?t know about Brett. Yay! We?ll have to have another meet-up!
Hugs,
Rhonda

A lot of people don't realize that Texas is a southern state.Being a southern state is not geography, it is a state of mind. We hold open doors for people, hold hands in public, and know that "iced tea" is the house wine of the south!. Mom and apple pie live here. :-) Karen
-
Amen, Karen to all. Love the part about iced tea! It is the wine of the South, that and ?shine, lol.
-
I mainline sweet iced tea, movie popcorn no butter, and fried chicken that someone else makes. Also Fried catfish, green beans , my whipped potatoes that are so good they need no gravy. And, I am famous for my cheesecake, and green pea salad. Southern women are required to be famous for a few things which they are always expected to bring to all gatherings. :-)

You are so right about those specialties. I?m known for pecan pie, homemade chicken pot pie and fancy fruit salad I refuse to call ambrosia.
Sweet tea is a staple as is core bread, ham hock and salt pork!
-
Did you know that some folks don't even know what salt pork is? And do not know that the only way to make cornbread is in a cast iron skillet?
-
Scandalous!
-
Someone actually stole one of my iron skillets. I had to buy a new one and break it in. Have you discovered Bacon Up? I love it. Karen

This is an excellent addition to the book, Rhonda, and it offers some very good helpful hints for any writer to consider and utilize. FS is definitely a wonderful place to learn about more ways to improve our writing skills.
I really like the artwork you chose, as well!

Another fine write, Rhonda....and it's true, when I compare my stuff now to the stories I wrote when I first started, I get depressed because my old stuff is actually better--no, I've come a long ways

Hahaha. Mike, you crack me up! I?ve truly seen you grow as a poet since I?ve known you. Practice does move a person!
Take care,
Rhonda

Thank you, Rhonda, practice does indeed make mediocre

I see you've been on site a few years longer than me, Rhonda. I've just passed the tenth anniversary of joining. I fully agree with what you say. From having written virtually nothing when I arrived, I've gone on to write several volumes of poetry and three novels with the encouragement and support of the FanStory community, as well as forming a number of strong virtual friendships.

Hi Tony,
I remember you from way back when. Not a whole lot of us still on from then, but we have history, officially, I joined 12 or 13 years ago, but have only been active about 10.
Congratulations on all you?ve accomplished. We do help grow each other.
Take care,
Rhonda

Thank you for the advice! I can really relate to... Why do I do it, when I really probably should be doing something else? It is a drive! Writing addiction! I just love the act of writing :-). Thank you for the bits of wisdom! Julie

Thanks so much for this advice and encouragement, Rhonda! I'm also a teacher. Fortunately I'm on summer holidays right now and am wirting and reviwing hard in my spare time, but I imagine I'll be working harder to maintain the balance once I return to work. :)

I actually seem to write better when I?m under pressure. I guess I need it as an escape, lol.

I think most of us are pretty busy, and I work better under pressure. It seems if I have too much time on my hands I don?t use it to write.
Hugs,
Rhonda

Thank you for sharing this lovely writing with all of us. I have been on this site for some time but have not written much lately. Sometimes, I just like to enjoy reading the writing of others.

Thank you Rhonda for sharing a bit of your history, and for sharing your tips for improvement. Time management is one of the most important aspects, as we all have a life outside of this site, which requires reading, reviewing, and posting. This is my third year on the site, and reviewers like you have helped and encouraged me immensely.
