He certainly was a little mischief maker in A Midsummer Night's Dream! His present place in popular culture is, appropriately, driven by the cupidity of businesses like Hallmark. Most florists wouldn't survive without him.
Quite how he has become associated with the patron saint of epilepsy and beekeepers is anyone's guess. Ah well, there's the sting! Bah! Humbug! indeed. (Of course, we need to bear in mind that most of his misdemeanours were at the instigation of his mother. LOL)

Ha! Too true! As we learned in the 70s, some mothers do 'ave 'em. :)

I can still see that wriggle of his shoulders accompanying the strangled cry of "Oooh!"

Imagine our shock years later when he emerged as the Phantom of the Opera. I thought that was a joke until I heard him sing!
He told a great story on a TV chat show once (might have been with Ray Martin) about how he was cast in Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. The guy in charge said "We're looking for an attractive idiot. My wife thinks you're attractive. I think you're an idiot." :)

I love the sentiment here and cupid did aim his dart in the wrong direction for me a couple of times, but eventually the right guy came along! This is a lot of fun and I loved the humour here, a fine post for the contest, love Dolly x

Lol! I love your protest against Cupid and his "insipid little dart" and yes, perhaps we should stop the "syrupy shallow Valentine celebrations" except it makes so much money for candy companies and Hallmark.
Best wishes in the contest!
