Wow, hidden depths there Beth! Adolescent hormones are no laughing manner. Back then things were not discussed or explained to us we were not prepared for the tide of feelings that would overcome us. I got my period at eleven and I had such thoughts so very early. It is a wonder we survived our hormones. Good writing. Karen

Thank Karen, I was twelve when the harmones hit. You're right. There wasn't a lot our parents wanted to explain but there were the horror stories about ruining you life forever and no one else will ever want you. At least, in my family.

I have heard of kissing cousins; I think it would be only infatuation though.
It is said they should never marry because of the bloodline. So glad that you're favorite cousins and friends yet.

Thank you Rosemary. President Rosevelt and his wife, Mamie were first cousins. I'm not sure how his kids turned out but he had a mistress on the side. Jerry Lee Lewis married his first cousin as will be they eventually got a divorce.

This is such a clear and well-told story. I'm sure many of us can think of our earliest relationships and what they meant for us, but they haven't usually involved kissing cousins! Thanks for the share.

Thank you for the review and lovely comments. I failed to mention in the story that Dave'ssister had married her dad's first cousin. I know her mother didn't want that to happen again. They met for the first time when he came out of service, and he was extremely handsome. Her own daughter found out many years later when she got interested in genealogy.

Beth, I imagine Dave remembers that summer with the same fondness you do. You two were uncharacteristically restrained for teenagers, which is a good thing. But there's nothing wrong with figuring the kissing, holding hands, and hugging stuff out with someone you know as opposed to a new boyfriend. I'm sure your boyfriends appreciated that you knew how to kiss:-)

Thank you Pam. It the days which this took place a lot of were scared to death of the possiblity of getting pregnant. We like wouldn't have been so restrained in today's morality. I really appreciate your review.

I can see where this could happen. You depict how the relationship developed into more than friendship. Of course, adults would worry it could lead to sex and pregnancy and a child with problems. I like the interpretation you put on it in the last paragraph.

Wow! you have given me a lot of six star reviews lately for which I'm very grateful. All this happened back in days when we were overly cautioned about the dire conquences of getting pregnant, so we really feared the possibility back then. I'm glad it didn't happen with today morality. I really appreciate the review and stars.

This was enjoyable to read. Kissing cousins is a taboo but you made it seem like it was alright and I went with the idea easily. This was a fun and romantic debut to seeing other people when the time was right.
Thanks for sharing this true love affair with your favorite person growing up. Dave sounds like a healthy alternative to learning on the street which would have been more damaging than just kissing in a movie theatre.
An excellent prose piece. Well thought out and told like a true trooper.
