Reading this was like being right there in the thick of things. Very descriptive, it sounds like you know what you're talking about. A great use of the prompt for this story, which you used several times.
I'm not sure I understood the motives of Rick; is he really trying to help her or is it doing a power play on her? I can't believe he was doing this out of the kindness of his heart.
It was a great story, and I really enjoyed reading it. I learned a lot about the stage life too.
Good luck in the contest.

Thank you so much for this thoughtful feedback, Pam! I like that you picked up on the repetition of the prompt - that was a little Easte egg for the careful reader. :) I'd like to think Rick is the rare individual in that space who is actually genuinely concerned for Miranda, although I can completely understand why he might seem as though he's feathering his own nest. I've been involved in many theatre productions over the years, but never with anyone suffering from fainting fits, fortunately! :)

This story is all at once heartwrenching and inspirational all packed up in one. You did an excellent job of creating the atmosphere of a theatre and a stage production with all of its pitfalls and highlights.
Miranda, I take it is a drag queen and she performs flawlessly every night on stage with only stage fright to guide her.
I am impressed with your knowledge of theatre people and how they talk and confide with each other.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful uplifting story.

Thanks so much, Jesse! I actually didn't picture her as a drag queen, but just as a regular female actor in heavy theatre make-up. :) I can see how you might interpret that from the descriptions, though.

I think you referred to Miranda as a he instead of a she a few times.
Maybe I am mistaken. Either way, I was impressed with your theatre knowledge.

You're seriously masterful with your descriptions and your imagery. I love reading your pieces because they allow me to escape into a totally different world.
As a former cast member, myself, though, I can assure Miranda that nothing but NOTHING remains a secret among actors. Noth. Ing. And Rick is nice (and trustworthy) for now...but it the "for now" that counts. It's that way pretty much in all work places, though. Gossip is the most powerful force in the universe.
Very good story, Navada! Thanks for the terrific read this morning. xo

Thank you so much - and yes, you're right, of course. I think her unspoken acknowledgement of this truth underpins her anxiety and probably compounds her physical symptoms, too. Let's hope she gets the medical intervention she needs so that the threat of losing her job disappears - and, of course, she's well again. :) (Don't you love how fictional characters take on lives of their own?)

Of course!!! That's what's especially fun about them!!

There's a wonderfully orchestrated subtext here. So much said between the lines.
You describe backstage fife in a way that suggests firsthand knowledge.
Very nicely done. A strong entry for the contest.

Thank you so much, Tony - I really appreciate that feedback and the generous six stars! :) Yes, I've been involved with theatre and particularly musical theatre for a long time.

Interesting contest entry. Like the dialogue and the general direction of the story. Clearly Rick was seeking solace and Miranda was switched on to his need.
Well written. Best of luck in the contest. Take care and have a wonderful day.
