Ann, This is a very well written contest entry for the Satisfaction contest. You used great descriptive and heart felt words. I have learned that I can only strive to do better with the help of Jesus Christ. Best wishes in the contest. Teri

"Growth and working toward being a better person is satisfaction. Reaching a goal of perfection does not happen on this side, but working toward it creates a satisfying journey."
What a wonderful reminder to be good to ourselves! I love how you have ended this, but even more, I love the idea of sitting down and doing a self-check. Your husband was given a compass that day... One we all could use!
I enjoyed this story immensely, and I think I will start my own campaign of doing a self-check once in a while. :)

An interesting daily plan: ""No, I don't think you are crazy and you are probably the most patient man I've ever met. Maybe they work." This is a good role model for us. Good, this leaves the
perfectionist out of it. Well orchestrated.

This is very good indeedy! I would self-check myself but I panic during tests and would certainly fail. Ha!
Suggest a space here between 'poemTo':
Robert Burns' poemTo a Louse
Great read my friend!

This is beautifully presented, and the idea of doing self-checks is an excellent one. Of course, satisfaction, itself, is a matter of semantics.
The ideal can be found in the scriptural guidelines for living. For example, regarding emotional responses-- love would be extremely high on the list; and regarding action -- forgiveness is always a special happening.
Thank you so much for sharing this thought-provoking writing.

It's an interesting essay about self improvement, and introducing a mind set of being satisfied with being unsatisfied. An interesting concept. It's saying that self improvement is an ongoing objective, requiring ongoing effort. And you have that specific example of how to put it into practice as you show your husband writing down the details of how he reacted to certain situations. It's that perspective that is all important in taking a hard look at our faults and virtues and sifting through them to make us a better person. estory

Hello AnnMuma,
This is a very engaging piece of personal writing, and you make your case of being "satisfied with being unsatisfied" well.
I too believe that we are only ever a work in progress, otherwise what would be the point of getting out of bed if not to have another go at being better today than you were yesterday. As the other Robert said "...but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, Or what's a heaven for?..."
A thoughtful write and a thought-provoking read.
I wish you well with your continued writing.
cheers

before I observed one of his 'Self-Check' sessions.. (you appear to have an extra full stop at the end)
Burns' poemTo a Louse (you need a space between teh words poem and To)
Growth and working toward being a better person is satisfaction (I'm not too sure if 'is' should be 'are' as you are referring to both growth and working toward etc. But, as I say, I'm am not 100% sure of myself on this point and happy to be wrong)

Brilliantly penned, my dear friend!
Your message about satisfaction rang true, your words cleverly chosen. I'm so glad you decided to enter this contest, because, otherwise you might not have share. It's time for a satisfaction self check!
Love the poem. I know it's famous, but I don't remember that line. I hope to never forget it.
Hugs,
Rhonda

It is good to be aware of our own actions and how our behaviour can affect others and a self reality check is necessary for us to be comfortable with ourselves. I enjoyed your post Ann and you made us all think, love Dolly x x x

Your husband has a handy idea for many people. The self-check makes you think over your day and decide if you have done it well, or not. Or you could use it over a few days or even a week to be sure you are happy with the way you are living your life.

Thank you very much, Carol. Randall typically indulged in self-checks only on days he was not satisfied with some specific incident. I think it was his way of getting rid of the stress. ann
