This is an interesting read which I enjoyed. I'm not personally familiar with this cartoon strip but I like the idea it had depth and wasn't simply superficially funny. Good old Mom for suggesting that one. It's lovely hearing of art like this being taken over by a family member. But I suppose,as he was the star of the show, it was only right. There are 2 small edits noted at the top: Bil(l); "the only one who(se) character carried his name." Thanks for sharing, Brett. I look forward to reading more. Debbie

Thanks for this update and this exploration of the process of cartoon making - somethign I knew absolutely nothing about. At the start, when you mentioned Bill Keane's "offsprings", did you mean "offspring"? I like the connection between father and son which is explored here as well. Thanks for the share.

I like what you are telling us about the Family Circus but I'd love to read about Mad Magazine as well. You mention it in this piece and it brought up all the fun my family and I had reading the satirical comics in Mad Magazine once a month. We subscribed to it every year. If I remember correctly it cost us $12 a year for a subscription and it was well worth it!

Yes, the 'Family Circus' is a very special cartoon that I feel most families can relate to. At least my family could and enjoyed reading and watching the cartoon. We have the Christmas one and the Easter one. I don't think they did a Thanksgiving one. If they did, I've missed it.
