Great story. Very well told. Nicely written, too. (smiley face here)
I didn't know the story of his name (Casey).
And thank you for including the tune!
Best wishes.

Very good storyline. It was very believable about Casey and Sam. It was easy to feel we were right there on that train ride with them. And so brave... or maybe a little stupid (lol) of Casey to go atop that train.
Glad it all turned out good in the end. Good luck in the contest.

I just realised that I used to watch Casey Jones on tv in the sixties. You have written his story very well in this fictional story which has factual information in it too. Well done.

Thank you so much! In my vast DVD collection, I have the entire "Casey Jones" show, the one with real-life adventures. There was also a kiddie show with that name.

Interesting story. I'm not sure if these two men were brave or stupid. They didn't seem to care much about their passengers' safety or the train we were told meant a lot to them. What I mean, what we are told doesn't match what we are shown. But it is an engaging tale. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for reading. Casey Jones, the real man, was both brave and foolhardy.

This was really powerful. It nearly made me cry. You had rich characters and imagery. I particularly loved your alliteration of " perlocacting powerhouses". Excellent work1 and good luck in the contest!

What an amazing story about this engineer, Casey, told in this very entertaining style by his close friend and narrator and completed with this fun video. I'm still enthralled by the drama in that tunnel and the courage and dedication shown by Casey to get the train through it. How apt for the brief of this contest, The Dark! I think this is a very original and strong entry and I wish you all the best, Jim! Take care Debbie

Thank you! I generally start with a song or theme going through my mind, then sit down to write. I was very surprised how easy this one was! Writing is what I love doing best, even if I never get a win!

Well good luck! I like it. It's very memorable which is what it's all about for contests, I think (says one usually languishing at the bottom:( )

This is an exciting adventure with the legendary Casey the Engineer. You portray him vividly as brave and resourceful. I also really like your narrator whose loyalty is unparalleled. I especially like your description of the old engine he helmed to break the record. this rusty coffee pot . Your vivid description, characterization, and dialog warrant six stars.

I just realized. My affliction with my left hand made a typo. I meant you were "A classy lady OF poetry and prose."
