I got cold chills when I read this. Any man who beats up on women and children is just evil. I don't think his church membership will save him. Thanks for sharing. Sarah

I can not imagine sitting at a table with Dean Paul in heaven. My mom and us siblings are survivors. We faced The Monster and lived to talk about it. I was glad to have Fanstory and this contest to pour out my raw emotions. Thankfully I had all of you to put me back together again and set me straight. I appreciate you.
Douglas.

Excellent writing, well told, with a clear beginning, middle, and end. That being said, I'm glad your nightmare is over, and I'm sure many of us share your joy. Personally, I too, have said "ding-dong"

I would tell you how great this was but, obviously to you, this was a true life horror story and something that has haunted you for many years. You are to be congratulated for being able to write this out and I hope the reactions you are sure to receive may be some sort of consolation to you,

Unsurprisingly, my fellow Fanstorians have given me great and wise counsel, helping me to get a better perspective. Writing for this contest has really been a soothing comfort. Thank you for the awesome review, Jim!

I once voted for McGovern, but I predict you will take the number one spot!

His love of church? That must make you laugh a sick, tormented, unbelieving laugh. Abusers often find refuge in the church after they have ruined lives.
You know what, Douglass, don't spend one minute feeling bad about how you feel. I celebrate with you. Now it's in God's hands.
Hopefully, this brings you some sense of comfort and peace.

As a Christian, I felt it wrong to feel such a poignant giddy joy and relief. Writing about it and putting it in a contest has helped me get it right in my mind. God bless you and thank you for your kind support.

Oh my goodness Douglas, this is so terrifying, how awful this must have been for you, your siblings and your poor Mother. I cant imagine this man changed when he had a new family and they may not be mourning quite as much as you think here. People don't generally change. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive him and move on without the torture he left in your memory, a fine post for the contest, love Dolly x x x

I wonder if his last family has horror stories of their own, Dolly. Thank you for your kind words. Forgiveness of an easier said than done. Writing this and putting it in a contest has helped me greatly.

Wow! This is powerful, "open up you heart and let all truth pour out," unapologetic honesty. Will God forgive? You used the words 'fear' and 'joy.' You never said 'hate.' That's my view. This is so well written that the reader can easily understand why you feel as you do. Your chosen picture is perfect, and intensifies your message. Best wishes in the contest.

I used the contest to pour out my raw emotions. It was actually very therapeutic. Not to mention all of you guys stepping in and helping to straighten out my perspective on the situation. And a Six Star from your sharp discerning eye is always a huge blessing to me. Thank you!

How can I possibly judge anyone who has been tormented by a cruel man, and feels less than charitable towards him. The disgusting thing is, he was honoured on his tombstone, I wonder what God has written, blessings Douglas, Roy

As a struggling Christian, I do t think feeling giddy joy at Deans death was proper but I did. I even laughed in relief.
Honestly, using this contest to write about it has given me a peace. Any Bible verses come to mind that may help me work on the forgiveness aspect, Roy?

How about loving the enemies of God, I think that?s what he is anyway Douglas.

Hard road to hoe, my friend.

That?s right Douglas, not my area of expertise,

Doughlas, this is a good entry for this contest. It has a nice twist from what might expect as an entry. I'm not as sure as you that his current family is sad to have him depart. He most likely never changed his ways. Good luck in the contest. Terry.

Thank you, Terry. Once again my friends on Fanstory have jumped in and helped me get a better perspective. Writing in this contest has been very soothing.

Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I can't say I enjoyed reading, I didn't because of the subject not the writing. I completely understand. After I left my first husband I had to go into hiding. Good luck with the contest.

Some men are evil. I think that there is great relief involved in writing about it. I know it seems cheesy to use a contest, but it really works as a candle prod to push me when I?m reluctant.

This story is horrible and I feel for you... I believe I have read the other stories about your stepfather and I feeling such anger towards him..
I love how your story started... and ended...
Ding dong the witch is dead was the first thing that came to mind when I learned today that Dean Paul had died.
Joy.
Perfect Douglas P.S. I am quite sure you are an amazing father...

Thank you Lisa. I have been told that I am a great dad but I?ve had recent issues with my oldest two.
I know that it is not very Christianly to feel joy at a death, but I was speaking honestly from the heart. This contest has provided me with a good way to express myself and I do have a battle handle on my thoughts now.

Good for you for speaking your mind..
Religion shoud never play a part in this sort of thing.
