I totally enjoy reading the origins of various things. Reading the words 'Funny Pages' reminds me of my childhood when my parents would give me and my younger sisters the Funny Pages to look at. I couldn't yet read, but I loved the colorful pictures. My favorite was Little Lotta. When I was older I was able to read her comics as well as Mutt and Jeff.

Thank you for this history of the interesting origins of Mutt and Jeff. It's written short and succinct, prompting me to look for your other historical Funny Papers stories.

I must admit I'm not very familiar with this genre due to the fact that back in the time this type of reading was a "western ideology" which was not in sync with the communist propaganda.

Well-written and again with info I didn't know, although I am not old enough to have seen the original Mutt. I really do remember them being in the local paper, but don't remember what it was about.

Very interesting post. I always loved the Sunday funnies, and I remember Mutt and Jeff. I was sometimes called "Jeff" because I was so short. Augustus is an August name for Mutt. I enjoyed reading about how and when the two joined forces in the comic strip. Syndication was a great thing. People across the country could read the same comic strips. judi

I have heard of Mutt and Jeff all of my life. I never knew it was a comic strip. Lots of interesting facts in this. You are very good at conveying your research. You dole it out in enteresting writing and it's never dull or regurgitated. Another great piece. Gretchen

I for one, of likely many, enjoyed all those comics. The Sunday morning paper had me up and waiting at the front door when it was delivered. But my how times have changed, and not everything for the better. Thanks for sharing.

I did not realize Mutt and Jeff were that old, which means they have had a long run!

Also I always thought Jeff came from the army not an insane asylum. (Same thing? Ha! )

Another great installment.

An interesting history! I am old enough to remember some other comics that I read for years, Popeye, Red Ryder, Tarzan, Joe Palooka, and the Katzenjammer(Sp?) Kids. Of course, that was before TV took over.
And yes, I did listen to, and remember, Paul Harvey.
