Another flawlessly written chapter here, Jim, with no errors noted. There's quite a build-up here as the two sides battle it out for the prize. I like old Hamish and the tension around the announcement, not least I assume for whether his words would come out in the right order:) But he'd abstained perfectly and did a great job! Thanks for sharing your fine and informative story! Debbie

Thank you very much, Debbie, for your wonderful review. Yes, old Hamish managed to pull it together and not screw up the announcement.

We are soon to take a major shift in direction as we get into Parts 3 and 4. I hope you will find these as interesting, but it will undoubtedly be in a different way. We are almost 2/3 of the way through the story now, but there's still a long way to go to wrap it all up.

and what is it that you'll do when you get through with Part 3. My schedule tween now and Christmas is packed with to-do's to do from the missus.
Truly speaking or is that truely ... anyhow, did you rest peacefully the night before you wrote this chapter? :-)

I will then go on to Part 4. I just finished writing the entire story a couple days ago, and we are now almost 2/3 of the way through it. Still a lot to go--perhaps another 5-6 week's worth of postings.

Can't remember how I slept the night before this chapter. I usually sleep okay until maybe 4:00 AM. Sometimes, if I'm thinking about the story, I may not be able to get back to sleep and will just get up and start writing. It was very likely the case with this chapter, as I had to figure out how to keep the action going and to make it close.

aah - so what you are submitting is totally complete? I wouldn't have known. I thought your submissions were written the day before or on the day of release.
You should be able to sleep more soundly now.

It started out that way at the beginning, but I began to get ahead, so that now it is finished, but there's still 1/3 to be posted.

Can't quite sleep soundly yet because now I begin the second draft of it in which I incorporate a few of the suggestions I got in the first draft--primarily from my daughter who serves as my best critic. I don't think it will require more than 2 drafts, though--unlike my previous book Some Call It Luck which took 5 until I felt it was done! The one I posted on FanStory was draft #3.

Yay! Dramatic and exciting, Jim. Well done and thank goodness we had the right result. I was worried we would actually have to deal with defeat for a moment. Excellent writing. Thank you!

Thank you, John. Couldn't have them lose after all that scheming and practice with the Fast Match!

Nicely written.
But still not gonna make a golf fan of me. (smiley face here)
It sounds as if the Snogs are superior golfers by the scores you detail in this, as well as previous chapters. But by the narrative, the Foos sound like the better ones. I got somewhat perplexed.
Best wishes.

My thinking is that the two teams are pretty well matched, talent-wise, but because the Snogs are so annoyingly slow, it disrupts the Foos, and they don't play their best against them. You can see that sometimes on the PGA Tour when a fast player is paired with a slow player. You can sense their frustration at having to wait so long for the slow guy to hit, and it definitely affects their mental attitude and also their score to a degree.

The idea of these new formats the Foos derived was to cut down on the amount of waiting around they would have to do and to be able to take advantage of their own speed.

If anything will convince you to take up the game, it might be what will come in Part 3!

It's a little like the new baseball rule putting the pitcher (and the batter) on a clock.
